...and there's footage of the new Black Panther using Shuri's distinctive arm cannons. So barring this being more Marvel/Disney trickery on inserting footage into the trailer that's not actually in the movie to throw off spoilers, this has to be Shuri.

I mean, was there ever any doubt?

I feel like we'll see multiple characters wear the suit in the movie. Maybe a kind of "I'm Black Panther!" moment when three or four of them team up to take down Namor.

Total speculation here, but I wonder if Chadwick Boseman recorded some audio as T'Challa before his death?

Obviously there was no filming but he did audio for What If...? It wouldn't be that strange if Coogler got him to speak a few lines and then used a body double that doesn't take off the suit at the start of the movie.

I did read somewhere that they'll be repurposing unused dialogue recorded for What If...?

No stranger than using scenes of Carrie Fisher in Star Wars.

I've mentioned that in this very thread at least once, although admittedly I can't recall where I read it first but I'm pretty sure it was Feige who said it.

I wonder ifT'Challa will be killed by Namor or at least the Talokan during an attack or if it will happen before all of that starts?

I think it might be fitting if T'Challa died of natural causes, like Boseman did. A sobering reminder that even a great hero can be taken from us unexpectedly, that sometimes there's just nothing you can do.

I can get behind that idea.

Killing him off so violently seems rather tasteless. Better I think to at least vaguely mirror reality so it's reasonably dignified and peaceful.

Yeah, that probably would be better. In that case, it could just be that Namor seems Wakanda as an easy target now that they lost the (current) Black Panther.

If the producers were smart, they would refer to T'Challa dying in the recent past--not played out on screen, or using Beseman's voice with a deep fake/stunt double or any thoughtless, disrespectful crap like that.

I'm thinking they might end up with redefining the Black Panther as something more populist, something many people can use, sort of a general guardian spirit of Wakanda rather than a privilege of the king. That way, Wakanda is still protected even if it loses the king, and it's more of a "power to the people" sort of thing, the citizens uniting in their own defense. Sort of like the "I'm Black Panther!" thing that CaptainWacky suggested above, but more like "We are all Black Panther!"
