I don't think Whedon fatigue was in just yet, but strangely enough that is all the rage today and not just because people don't like the guy. The man was one of the most influential writers of the last few decades. To point where it seems all modern young writers want to be the next Whedon and they all try to do the snarky,to cool for school approach to what they write and of course most of them aren't that good at it and thus it's become boring at this point.

How could it? Having Han Solo in a Marvel movie is at least as significant as snagging Robert Redford, not to mention playing a Presidential Hulk we can get behind....

One would hope Ford in a very important role (historically to the MCU) will be a draw to this film.

They were disasters. In terms of box office, which was the context of the remark.

Exactly.

All performances were a shame, but they don't come close to the absolute crater of The Marvels. 300+ budget, 200 box office worldwide.

True. The Marvels was a record-making disaster, yet some feel the need to act as Disney/Marvel Studios' PR department.

Again, the topic was the box office.

Yep.

What are you talking about? Their comment was literally just that they hope that Cap 4 does better at the box office than what happened to The Marvels. They didn't jump on a hater bandwagon, and they weren't trying to make any point beyond "I hope Cap 4 does well".

All true, but the manipulative game played in defense of The Marvels' failure is that any criticism of its performance "must" be the result of some sociopolitical issue, or its triggered constant reactions of the type you are addressing from hyper-defensive MCU supporters.

The Marvels was a really fun movie that I enjoyed a lot.

I watched it again recently - it feels as if it was a different film at some point and was heavily edited. You can still find pictures of scenes that seem to be important and would require very different set-up but just don’t exist in the film itself.

There. Let's get even more people fighting. It's not as if we don't get enough of that on this forum, let alone in real life.

Also, not lying. The Marvels was great. So was Captain Marvel.

Those are fighting words! Granted all words are fighting words in fandom, thus making it easy to be true. The only word in the dictionary that is not a fighting word is Tuvix!

Sounds like it was... marvelous.

Which is not particularly unusual in the film business.

The Marvels wasn't awful but it was very disappointing to me. Especially because those actors and those characters deserved better.

Captain Marvel is one of the best films in the MCU.

I think The Marvels wasn't the worst MCU movie but it was still not a good movie. The biggest problem is I only like 1 of the 3 leads and Fury was really hurt as a character from his tv show. The villain was maybe the worst MCU villain of them all. Forgettable as they come. I do want more MS. Marvel. She is by far the best thing in the movie and for the love of God I hope she is someday able to be part of a MCU project that is successful. Her tv show was terrific but it was a ratings failure. Got my fingers crossed on her being in the Avengers movies.
