Sentry is basically 'What if Superman had his heart in the right place but was also a really mentally fragile person who is incredibly easy to manipulate and happens to have an evil alternate personality that loves to 'balance out' any good that Sentry has done recently by killing tons of people.' Also the only thing that can keep him reasonably centered is his wife which is unfortunate since she ultimately tries to kill him because she's so terrified of his instability.

I thought "Hyperion" was essentially Superman? Some even suggested Henry Cavill after he was booted out of the DC Universe.

The scenes at the party where he first meets Vicky are played in a nebishy manner. Not very "millionaire playboy".

I wouldn't say "nebbishy," and I don't see the Clark Kent comparison. Burton and Keaton's version of Bruce Wayne is more of a neurodivergent, socially inept, sheltered eccentric absorbed by his strange obsessions, much like a lot of Tim Burton protagonists.

There are multiple versions in the Marvel Universe - Gladiator is another.

Technically Gladiator is a Superboy analogue, since the Shi'ar Imperial Guard is modeled on the Legion of Super Heroes.

Maybe for a TV project. Anson Mount isn't a hollywood leading man. Pedro is being positioned to be one. He's in a lot of high profile projects.

Which “high profile”projects is he getting as a leading man that aren’t streaming or cable series?
More to the point, some of the best casting decision Marvel made were relative unknowns or TV actors.

Which is probably why a lot of high schoolers, like me, identified with him when the movie was released.
I've been to high school reunions and it's somewhat surprising how many of my classmates felt out of place, even though, outwardly, we were participating in clubs and sports and going to dances, etc.

Gladiator 2, and despite being a streaming series HBO's The Last Of Us was a high profile and very successful gig.

He's a buzzworthy lead actor. Mount is not. And even guys like Hemsworth were ones that studios wanted to mold into a leading man and saw potential in.

There is an upcoming Sentry comic series, in which the powers of the original character are to be put up for grabs by a new set of claimants.

So it's possible that the MCU version of Sentry might be inspired by one or more of those new characters - or, indeed, might see them as a precedent for creating an entirely new Sentry of their own.

Speaking of Hyperion-alikes, there is also Taegukgi, whose Earth-616 origin story was covered in the Tiger Division limited comic series. (Although on that Earth, the South Koreans think of Hyperion as a Taegukgi-alike...)

I'm still hoping that we might see the likes of the Tiger Division, add/or the (new) Agents of ATLAS, in live action - to include adding Cindy Moon to the latter team, should the ongoing agreement between Sony and Disney allow this (or could be adjusted to do so).
