Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Warren Ellis will be writing six issues of "Secret Avengers".

As the writer explained, parts of Brubaker's original take of the comic went hand-in-hand with Ellis' past work. "Ed told me that 'Sekritly Avengering' was, in his conception, a fusion of the Marvel Universe with 'G.I. Joe' and my own 'Global Fequency.' And that's exactly the approach I'm taking with it," he said, noting that the single issue story format for his run was not a reaction to the long-arc compression popularized by his early '00s superhero work. "Well, if it was inspired by 'Global Freq,' then 'Scantily Angling' needed to go the full nine yards and be executed as a sequence of done-in-one issues, just like 'Global Freq.'

I've actually been wondering about the future of Secret Avengers what with Steve Rogers apparently set to to re-take the responsibilities of being Captain America again. It seems to me that if Rogers becomes Cap again, the Secret Avengers concept will have outlived its usefulness. I wonder if that's why Marvel hired a limited run replacement for Brubaker rather than a long-term replacement.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

^ Funny this should be the last post because this has sold now! I wasn't sure where to put this but since we discussed the Stark Future Map earlier from Avengers #5 I thought this was still the best place. Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnson has filled in where we are up to now as things have become clearer in the Marvel Universe.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

A couple of months since the last update...I have started reading both Avengers and New Avengers again thanks to the Hammer War. Avengers has a new artist that seems to fit with the book. Today's issue introduced the new line up (Spider-Man, Logan, and Ms. Marvel are not on the main Avengers team any more it would seem with little explanation) but Storm and a returning
Vision
are members. How Norman Osborn can still be allowed to run around after escaping a Maximum Security prison is beyond me.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Logan's absence makes sense, considering the latest developments over in the X-books.

Guess Marvel figured it was stretching things a bit far to have Wolvie on five different teams, off having solo adventures AND running a school.

Is Logan losing his ubiquitous power?

Wonder if Professor Howlett will send a sub over to Luke's Avengers team?

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I'm just kind of surprised that Tony and Steve didn't have a conversation with those three to tell them of their decision. Perhaps that will still come but it still felt weird. As Peter says "I feel used." he was joking of course but it was the right kind of joke for the moment.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Daisy Johnson "And if they ever throw a parade for you, I'll be right there in front lifting my top."

Do people ever really talk like that? That's some bad dialog and characterization.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Actually that is bang on for Daisy, although Bendis hasn't written her in quite a while since he created her in "Secret War".

I think Bendis jumped the shark on Avengers sometime after Dark Reign possibly during Heroic Age.

His Moon Knight is the only thing thats close to readable.

Kinda like Geoff Johns.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

^ I can see Christos Cage wanting Laura in Avengers Academy and Laura is a member of X-Force still.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Wonder if Professor Howlett will send a sub over to Luke's Avengers team?

X-23 has nothing to do now that her title's canceled.
I just saw that on Twitter(while in a meeting) AND that Ghost Rider has been cancelled.

I was reading GR but they didn't push the book at all after it launced and minimally before that anyway. The book needed a more dynamic start but was coming together...if slowly imo.

Pulling the plug on Black Panther too. Marvel's clearing house.

The Great Marvel Implosion of '11.

Joe Q needs to return to Marvel editorial fast or there won't be anything left saving imo.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

^ No he doesn't. Joe Q needs to stay where he is right now....more importantly away from Dan Slott and Spider-Man. To be fair Ghost Rider is always getting cancelled.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

The last version of Ghost Rider lasted more than 30 issues plus a 5 issue mini finale. Cancelling it at #9 is a slap in the face to the fans.

As for Dan Slott, he needs to join the rest of America in the unemployment line.

Put Spencer on that book, he is wasting his current exclusive contract doing nothing. But anyone other than Slott would be good.

Re: Heroic Age/Avengers Ongoing Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Nick Spencer is writing Ultimate Comics X-Men right now and doing a hell of a job. Slott has problems as a writer to be sure but he has at least convinced me that he can handle Spider-Man. Spider-Island was one of the best Spider-Man stories in recent time. Plus he seems to be undonig One More Day and started with weakening Stephen Strange's identity spell.
