Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

ASM 13: I can't believe there's only one issue left of Spider-Verse because it feels like we're still in the first act. The entire series has been them running away from the bad guys and now we're abruptly shifting into the final battle. Maybe I should have been reading more of the tie-ins? I feel this story needed to last longer. We're at the end and it's only in this issue that one of the Inheritors gets killed? Or did the first one, Karn, get killed somewhere? I forget...

I want to like this story, but it hard to differentiate between a dozen different Spideys who are basically the same. I honestly can't even tell which one is "our" Peter anymore.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

the villains of Spider Verse are kinda lame. i never thought much of Morlun to begin with though. Spider Verse is, IMO, having fun with all the different versions of Spidey. the villains are poorly conceived and not very well thought out.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Slott has done wonders IMO with Morlun and his family. Expanded them and fleshed them out more than JMS ever did. To me they are actually interesting. Perhaps not what would constitute as "awesome" or bad ass but that's just me :)

I agree. I like seeing the different versions of Spidey, but I literally could not care less about Morlun and his family. If the story was just Peter vs. the family, I wouldn't even bother keeping up with it. Its the alternate spider people that keep me interested.

I have a similar feeling. I think the Spideys talking to Uncle Ben at the end were Spider-Ock and 616-Peter (because that chastising speech had all the hallmarks of Spider-Ock). But I'm not sure. :)

There's an idea I can't get out of my head now -- Uncle Ben and Spider-Ock bonding over their mutual love for Aunt May. Ewww! (And now I know how Peter felt when he accessed those memories of Otto's back in Amazing #698-ish.)

Are you only reading "Amazing Spider-Man"? Because if that's the case you're not going to get anything out of Spider-Verse at all. This is a event that demands you read every tie-in, because that's the only way you're going to get the whole story.

What you're doing is the equivalent of reading a book but only reading every fourth chapter.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Yep. If you're only reading Amazing and not anything else, as Aldo stated, you're not going to get anything else out of Spider-Verse. I would highly recommend getting the trade when it comes out because the other tie-ins function as tie-ins should and expand the main story and explore the other characters. "Scarlet Spiders" has been my favourite. Seeing Kaine, Ben, and Ultimate Jess interact has been a lot of fun.

Also if you're not liking Spider-Verse...you probably won't like "Secret Wars" because it's going to explore multiple alternate characters as well.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I caught the first issues of the tie-ins but not the second or third. I guess I'll have to hunt them down

I am enjoying it, I just think there are some problems. But what story doesn't?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Or you could just grab the Trades. The "Prelude to Spider-Verse" is out and "Spider-Verse" should be out shortly after the event ends next month. You can read everything you need to read by collecting those two collections.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Buy the trade, sell it for profit on ebay.

Sell all your trades, buy a new car.

Give up comics as a hobby, buy a new house.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

OT, but slightly awesome-- In San Francisco a grafitti artist is defacing bus ads promoting an anti-muslim hate-group using images of Kamalah Khan.

And yes, I know that what this person is doing is, in point of fact, illegal and the city of SF would not be in the wrong if the vandal were caught to press charges against him/her. However, speaking for myself, I would much rather see images of Ms. Marvel fighting to stamp out racism than the disgusting hate-bait that was there previously.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

How does a Bus company decide that it's alright to alienate a noticeable portion of their customer base?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I just saw this on Io9, and was about to post about it. I love it.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

As I understand it, it was a First Amendment/Free Speech issue. The city-run bus service could no more deny this group their ads than the city planners would be able to deny the Westboro Baptists a permit to stage a demostration outside of a funeral. (Although, the municipality I used to live in manage to keep WBC out of town).
