Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Am I the only who thinks that its a rather odd choice to have Falcon's first story as the new Captain America be one where he gets turned evil?
Nope, not at all--which is why I'm not even bothering with it until this stuff blows over. But by then, they'll probably have Steve back as Cap, so who knows...

Marvel is definitely now in the practice of launching ongoing books that are tie-ins to their events. For new readers, that could be a little confusing unless they're already up to speed on the event.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

..

Professor Xavier and Mystique were secretly married, and she was pregnant with his kid when Cylclops murdered Charles.
Wait...what?????

Yup, it was recently revealed in Uncanny during the reading of Xavier's will. Nothing has come of that revelation yet save a shocked group of mutants hearing this for the first time.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

We already met their son who time-travelled back from the future.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that (she was in the form of Moira when the future Charles was birthed). Plus Mystique and Wolverine's son, Raze, was part of the team, don't know how that all happened.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Google tells me that Mystique and Logan have been at it since 1921. My memory reminds me of an issue of Wolverine where a topless Jean Grey goes to get a bucket of ice at a seedy motel after frakking Logan raw, but a page later we figure out that it's Mystique and this is what passes for Roleplaying when you're a metamorph. (It wasn't a trick, just a laugh.)

Of course, Mystiques solo series from 2005ish (with the dirty porn covers.) was where she was working for Xavier. But really the marriage seems like medieval intermarriage to form alliances and stop war to me, which is meaningless unless they have a baby who in the next generation can lead both the goodies and the baddies unifying mutant kind.

Bendis has been playing the long game with Raven. Her "current" Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, stole billions off Tony stark when he off world living with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and then she bought Mandripor off the Hand to supposedly create a new Mutant State... What if she's actually following her dead husbands benevolent instructions/suggestions and not up to no good?

(First person to say "nesting instinct" earns 8 sexism points!)

Mystique was hit by the Red Skulls inversion during AXIS.

Now that her moral compass has been flipped to true south, who knows what this means for her end game, or if this AXIS shit will actually get anywhere near Bendis' books?

AXIS #9: hunh. so, nothing really happened. this ended up being an extremely consequence free crossover. Basically, Wanda isn't related to Magneto anymore and Sabertooth is good now. That's it. My initial excitement didn't really stand up to the test of time. Still, I liked it more than Original Sin and Fear Itself.

One thing that annoyed me about Wanda/Magneto is that she went on about him being alone, but Polaris is definitely his daughter, so he still has family. I mean, they can retcon anything, but from what I remember him being Polaris's Dad was pretty explicit, even ignoring the fact that they have the same powers. Removing Wanda/Peitro from the Magneto family feels like a cheap move to make them like the Avengers version, but its not a huge deal.

I just kind of wonder why the writer didn't remember Polaris. Or, actually, the writer probably did, but it would have made inverted Wanda's rant less effective if she brought up that Magneto still has at least one kid.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

It was only to do with Wanda's direct bloodline...that wouldn't have affected Lorna at all. At least that is my understanding of it.

Not entirely consequence free as I believe Tony, Alex, and Sabertooth (since he's gonna be starring in "Wolverines) remain inverted.

Axis was always meant to be a self-contained "event" anyway and a loose sequel to "Avengers Vs X-Men" (which is why they slapped on that to market it). It also paid off some of Remender's "Uncanny Avengers" run as well...while setting things up for his second volume.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Quick question: I do almost all of my Marvel reading 6 months behind via Marvel Digital Unlimited. Is Captain America and the Mighty Avengers just a rebranded Mighty Avengers?

pretty much, yeah. same cast of characters.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Oh, Iron Man was still evil? I didn't even notice that part. I know he made the shield around himself, Havok, and Sabertooth, but I didn't remember them showing him afterwards so I forgot.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Tony's not technically evil, just arrogant as all hell and with his morals stripped away. I'm guessing "Superior Iron Man" is going to continue through until at least "Secret Wars". It's been really good IMO.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Does the flash-forward "Time Runs Out" storyline in Avengers take place before or after "Secret Wars"? I think it's leading to a second storyline, "Running Out of Time", which then leads to the third, "Secret Wars", right? And this is all the finale of the Hickman run?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

^ That's correct. The flash forward and the hunt of the Illuminati take place 8 months from the present time of 616 but I assume before Secret Wars since the final incursion will take place during the grand finale...they can't stop it somehow and boom "Secret Wars" and Battleworld is forged as the result.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

And I know that the events leading up to "Time Runs Out" are going to be covered in Avengers World but it seems like way too big to be in a single book...

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Originally I think Wanda and Pietro were the offspring of some golden age heroes from what I understand (Although they worked with Magneto originally). The Whizzer (Who had powers similar to Quicksilvers) and Mrs. America (Who has a similar hairstyle to Wanda's classic look). However that got retconned many times from what I understand until the Magneto connection was revealed in the early 80s. Same thing with Lorna/Polaris.

Polaris also might have a sister, the Savage Land priestess Zaladane. She was killed by Magneto during the early 90s I believe, but this was before the whole Polaris is really Magneto's daughter retcon thingy. I think this also dealt with a brief storyline in which Polaris was really muscular and giant for some reason, but her original form was restored for the second X-factor team.

I'm not sure how accurate this all is, there's been so many retcons in comics sometimes it's hard to keep track.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

"Avengers World" and "New Avengers" also cover the events of "Time Runs Out" as well and especially "New Avengers" has been critical with what is going on in "Avengers".

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I just finished reading a couple issues of the Exiles(circa 2003) and I'm wondering if the timeline errors that they are "fixing" has anything to do with Hickman's Avengers?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

^ I wouldn't be surprised. Spider-Verse recently killed off "Exiles" Miguel :(
