Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Anyone getting She-Hulk #1 today? I'm going to look it over once I get to the LCS and decide. I'm not super sold on the art seen in the preview pages.
@Craig, DAMMIT!! I knew there was something else I wanted to pick up!:scream:
I did end up getting it. Diamond shorted my LCS a box so I didn't get Eternal Warrior #6 so my justification to try out She-Hulk #1 was easy.

If any of you are looking for a low commitment then this issue has it. Like Black Widow #1 and Punisher #1 before it this issue is essentially a one&done proposition. Is this an "All New" wide spread gimmick? I haven't gotten Winter Soldier, Ms.Marvel etc? Sorry for digressing, now, could they tie back into this issue at some point, yes, but the story is told in this issue while setting up Jen's new status quo as solo adventurer. There are no costumed bad guys, Tony Stark makes a few panels worth of appearances and she fights a few robots. Largely this is a character piece opening issue, little action to speak of but still an enjoyable read. I just could not get sold on the art. I'll decide on issue #2 when I see it, could go either way.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

the new Winter Soldier is a mini and isn't a one and done. neither is Ms. Marvel. the first issue of Ms. Marvel sets up the cast and definitely ends with you needing to pick up issue #2. or at least, thats what Marvel wants.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

That's selling Black Widow a little short. Sure the first two issues were self contained stories, but issue 3 seemed to be setting up some future plotlines. Will be interesting to see what develops there.

And like Praetor_Shinzon said, Ms. Marvel will also be an ongoing series, I'm sure it will have very few (if any) single issue adventures.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Yeah "Black Widow" is great and "Punisher" was more interesting than I expected. "Black Widow" is going the route of "Hawkeye" showing what Natasha does on her "downtime" away from the Avengers. I believe that is the premise of "She-Hulk" as well if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I wasn't trying to imply anything about Black Widow and Punisher, in my She-Hulk #1 comparison, other than one could pick up the issue and feel like they got a complete story.
I think there are underlying sub plots that will be addressed like her agent, Anna her neighbor(which is issue #3 happens) and of course Liho the cat.
Just that if one samples issue #1 they aren't likely to feel lost and/or incomplete.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

^Then you missed out on him hitting on X-23. As much as I am a Scott/Jean forever kid of guy, the thought of Scott hooking up with a female clone of Wolverine is just too funny.

Seems out of character for Scott to be hitting on anyone.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

He didn't hit on her.

Jean just read his mind and told him not to hit on her in ear shot of everyone including X-23.

Was it Jean?

Could have been Emma?

Slim is not so good at following through.

Maybe dear old dad can teach him how to pick up space clunge in the Star Wars Cantina?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Spider-Man: Learning to Crawl will be a five-issue story detailing the first sixty days following Amazing Fantasy 15.

A few quotes from writer Dan Slott...
As a fan, there's certain things about revisiting origins that scare me. I hate it when all this extra ballast is attached onto something so beautiful and elegant. Plus, Spider-Man has one of the best origin stories of all time. So my take was always that we leave everything we know as sacrosanct.

Everything that happens in "Learning to Crawl" you can consider canon. This happened, and it tells a story that takes place the second after "Amazing Fantasy" #15 ends. The closing shot of "Amazing Fantasy" #15 is Peter Parker walking into the distance, having learned the lesson of great power and great responsibility. The opening of this series is Peter Parker walking towards us. So the camera is on the other side now as he's wondering now that he knows that life changing lesson, what does he do next?

That's the opening moment. This story happens right after "Amazing Fantasy" #15 and concurrently with "Amazing Spider-Man" #1-3. Those four issues are the Bible, and this is the story that you never knew and it's happening when the camera wasn't rolling before. Important things happen. Things that you knew had to have to happened -- and now you'll see them unfold in ways that will hopefully feel true and surprising in how revelatory they are. It really gets to the heart of a new hero finding his way.

This is going to be running in tandem with "Amazing," where instead of "Amazing" twice a month, what we're doing is every month you get an issue of "Amazing" and an issue of "Learning to Crawl," which will be under the "Amazing Spider-Man" banner. You'll get that for five months. Then, when "Learning to Crawl" is done, the stories are going to fold into each other. In the very next issue of "Amazing," you'll see how "Learning to Crawl" affects the present day.

Sounds interesting, although I will probably only pick up the flashback issues.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I remember seeing a complicated timeline depicting how they shuffled the 90s series untold tales of Spider-Man into the first couple years of 60's Amazing Spider-Man.

I wonder if Slott is aware of this series?

Byrne did a re-origin year one series as well.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Slott's a continuity nut of even the most obscure stuff so I'm sure he's very aware of Untold Tales. Heck, it probably even inspired him to do this.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Doesn't Untold Tales take place in the same time period though? I don't remember that series well but I remember liking it.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

It's not pictorial, but this gets the point across.

http://www.comicsbackissues.com/comic-book-reading-order/spider-man-read-order-chronology/

Untold Tales took account of all the events in every issue of Amazing Spider-Man, carefully explaining how Peter is still reeling from what happened in the most recent issues of Amazing that were published in the 60s, while foreshadowing events that are about to happen in the next chronologically relevant issues of Amazing Spider-Man.

Busiek had a hand down his pants while writing Untold obsessing on continuity porn.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

thats what i loved about Untold Tales. such attention to continuity. he even explains why Peter stops wearing glasses between certain issues of Amazing.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

That's what Busiek does. Remember in Avengers Forever when he stopped halfway through to fix every continuity error ever over the course of two issues?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

thats why i love Avengers Forever so much.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

The Roman Perez Ditko-Esque Spidey looks fantastic and it should be interesting to see how Slott writes teenage Peter. Sounds to me like Slott's been inspired or that this is his take on Untold Tales. I don't remember the exact issue or even if it was Slott or Hickman, but one of the issues with the FF Johnny references when Peter asked Sue out.
