So it appears that Venom is the surprise character being added to the Guardains of the Galaxy line-up along with Captain Marvel come February.
I'm not too up on Venom except for Spider-Man 3, so I'm not sure if this is how this addition will work but I'll be interested to see what happens.

I don't get Lenil Francis Yu. His artwork looked absolutely amazing in Secret Invasion, but everything since then has looked incredibly scratchy and poor; Ultimate Avengers, Superior, these Infinity tie-in issues of Avengers... is it a different inker? A rushed job?

I take it he's leaving Thunderbolts then if that's the case.
Venom...on the surface it sounds like them shoe horning in a character they feel the need to be doing something with.
The original GotG shared the fate of being the last of their kind who banned together as Guardians to make sure the genocidal fates that befell their worlds didn't happen to others. Loosely, I reserve the right to be corrected where needed.
I haven't continually read the present version since it's formation. I'm reading the current series with Iron Man but don't get that vibe now.Is there a "gimmick" for team members? One that Venom would fit and make sense to me?

I don't know much more than what I wrote in my above post. I do know that Iron Man left the team and isn't coming back to them. Which is a shame cause I felt he fit in nicely with them.
I'm not sure how they'll fit Venom into them, Carol makes a bit more sense because she's at a place right now where she needs a break from Earth...actually mostly the same reasons Tony joined with them for the first handful of issues.

Flash was in the issue of Fearless Defenders in which all the boyfriends got together to try to get the girls to leave the Fearless Defending to the men-folk.
I wouldn't be surprised if the lesbian living in her body freaked him out too much.

They could still be dating while Flash is in space. Carol hooked up with Frank in Captain Marvel so both could be in...long distance relationships until they return to Earth.
