March Madness - 2008

Chalmers is a Junior, although he may well be an NBA candidate. That was an outstanding shot near the end to drive it into overtime.

Sorry, I'm giddy. I'm from Lawrence, and I'm pretty sure Mass Street is in fire about now. :)

The Kansas athletic department better be ready to sweeten the pot for Self. T. Boone will be up there waving a $40 million check under Bill's nose with a 10 year contract offer. I wasn't kidding about that. 40 million for ten years with an extra 10 million dollar bonus if Self stays the full ten years. T. Boone thinks he can buy anyone. I think he'll end up regretting ordering his puppet Mike Holder to fire Sutton, but that's neither here nor there.

I'm in Lawrence too and everyone is going crazy here! I was just a little kid when we won back in 1988, and I've grown up here all my life wanting us to win again. My dad is FINALLY going to be able get a new jacket to replace his old and frayed 1988 National championship jacket that he refused to replace unless he could get a new one!

That was a hell of a game. Great finish and that final shot from Chalmers was clutch. I'm surprised Calipari didn't foul in that situation but I guess that's the controversy for the next few days. I still think this wasn't the best tournament ever, but it ended on an up note.

Yeah, I think about everyone was surprised they didn't foul Chalmers. Who knows... maybe that will be ranked up there with "Why didn't Pitino guard the inbound pass?"

I'm seeing things all over the net, several items which contributed to Memphis' loss and Kansas' win. Most of the water cooler talk seems to be how Memphis lost the game. In the end... yeah they really did. But even if they did leave the door open when they should have been able to close it out, Kansas had to do an awful lot right... and had to do ALL of it right, to even have a chance to win.

True enough. Still, without Memphis giving them the opportunities, Kansas never has a chance to even do anything about it. Kansas gets all the credit for converting, but Memphis blew free throws down the stretch and unbelievably didn't foul on that final posession. Hell, I know to do that coaching youth basketball. Memphis blew that one big time. Or, if you believe Calipari, God didn't want them to win. God must have had a sawbuck on Kansas.
