March Madness - 2008

Ok, so it's still February but the college Basketball season is going strong and getting stronger as we get closer to the Madness. I'm getting excited about what is happening. Yesterday Kansas and Memphis went down, and in the last week Duke lost twice. So how is your team doing. How are you liking this college basketball season so far? Tennessee is Number 1 this week. How did that happen?

My team is Penn State - 'nuff said. Highlight of the year was being 10-4, and then Geary Claxon's injury ruined the rest. Oh, and we beat MSU...but so did D-II Grand Valley State. Four years, never even made that N-whatever tournament.

BUT I'm going to beat everyone in the March Madness pool. No losing to Peg this time!

I just hope to do well in the pool. I remember last year picking Virginia Commomwealth over Duke. That was a good day.

I'm not doing so hot after last night's game. Memphis should have definitely won that. With 30 seconds left, they let Tennessee score to take the lead and that was pretty much it. Of course, missing 3 shots in a row in 1 possession while ahead by 1 point was not good, either. Overall, it was a good game. Memphis did not play that great and Tennessee did, in my opinion. When both teams are on top of their game, I think Memphis wins. The cards, unfortunately, did not fall that way yesterday.

There actually was a period of time where Delaware had a theoretical chance of making it in the tournament. Since that clearly went up in smoke a long time ago, I'll just go back to my traditional strategy of rooting for Big 5 schools. But I honestly haven't followed college basketball all that much this season, so I'll have to catch up before I have any clue who will do well in March.

Who are the Big 5 Schools. Living on the West Coast, I've not heard of that one.

Philadelphia Big Five: Penn, Temple, St. Joseph's, Villanova, and LaSalle. They're in different conferences (Penn: Ivy League, Temple, St. Joe's, and LaSalle: Atlantic 10, Villanova: Big East) and Villanova isn't even in Philadelphia (Lower Marion), but they still have a historic rivalry and, to be honest, Temple, St. Joe's, and Villanova were the only teams I remember when growing up who have done anything worth remembering.

I didn't pick them since I had never really heard of them (turns out they're in the same conference as Delaware - go figure). But I was glad when they won, since I don't like Duke at all.

Easy come, easy go for Tennessee. Looks like the Tar Heels are going to be back at number one.

Stanford barely got by last night. They need to really learn how to beat up on teams. If they don't, it will be another one and done in the tournament.

That was a great UCLA game today. 54 for Arizona should have taken that shot. Now is the showdown at Pauly on Thursday night. Pity it isn't a Saturday game.

I'm late to the thread but is someone going to set us up a bracket at Yahoo or elsewhere like in years past??

Stanford got robbed last night. UCLA has looked bad in many games, even if they won. They could easily lose the PAC-10 tourney and likely won't make it back to the Final Four.

Another UCLA win, another Snubbing by the officials of the Pac 10. I'm starting to wonder if an investigation is necessary if those officials were paid by the school. Ok, that was pure sarcasm, but it's annoying that both those wins came on bad calls.

Looking forward to the Pac 10 tournament this week, but can we get maybe the WCC refs to call the game. Maybe it might be more fair that way.

I'm still rooting for IU but they've got to play better than they have been lately!! We won't even talk about the Penn State game today. PSU must have been watching the MSU tape over and over and over!!
I bet mimic is happy tho!!

The only way my alma mater would get in is if they won their conference tournament, which they didn't even come close to doing.
