Marc Guggenheim leaving 'FlashForward'

The quality might have dipped a little since the pilot, but I don't know if dumping the showrunner was really necessary.

All they had to do was deemphasize some of the soap opera aspects a bit, and most people probably would have been satisfied.

Thanks for the scifi wire article. I think it was a little too pro-Goyer. 'Accomplished' filmmaker? That remains to be seen. Though he has written some great scripts, the first two Blade films, the two Nolan Batman films.

Goyer in full control doesn't quite inspire me with the same confidence that the article's writer has. I'm still trying to erase Blade Trinity from my memory. Both Threshold and Blade the Series had potential, but ultimately were underwhelming and didn't see a second season. Here's hoping that Goyer's learned from his mistakes and can do a great job with Flash Forward.

I like the soap opera antics...and I think this show is pretty good, so I hope ABC sticks with it...

Ugh....of the three "name" writers, Goyer is the weakest. Most of the projects he's involved with are good despite him, not because of. The first two Blade movies succeed because they were helmed by strong, stylish directors. Blade III, with Goyer playing solo, sucked badly. BATMAN BEGINS was re-written by Nolan. JSA got better when Goyer left and Geoff Johns took over solo. STARMAN wasn't as good when Robinson brought Goyer in to co-write.

Maybe I'll be plesently surprised, but Guggenheim was the main reason, other than the premis, I tuned in.

i wish GEOFF JOHNS was still doing JSA..I think he's DC's best writer..he should write the GL movie...

I actually don't mind it either. I find the stuff with the doctor and father kind of intriguing myself.

But I'm pretty sure we're in the minority on that. ;)

I heard that there was a mention of Somalia on this show? Can anyone tell me what episode that?

Sorry for the thread hijacking but we rarely get get any coverage that isn't about War,famine or Piracy so each one is a special event.

It's from the third episode, 137 Sekunden

In 1991, an incident occurred, causing massive amounts of crows to die. A young boy, herding goats, witnessed the incident. Subsequent reports stated that, at the same time, several humans had blacked out.
Follwing the GBO, Mark Benford made the connection of crows dying in massive amounts to be associated with blackouts.

Ironically, according to the show, there would have been a huge die-off of crows in Somalia that wasn't noticed by anyone beyond I suppose the local area. I thought that was a bit far-fetched, but hey, maybe...?

David Goyer also had nothing to do with the writing of The Dark Knight. He just wrote the treatment with Nolan, who in return wrote the film with his brother Jonathan Nolan.

If Guggenheim was the genius behind that overplayed Dylan song as background to a standard action shootout, then good frakkin' riddance. Is he deliberately trying to undermine this show with musical absurdity? :rommie: At the very least, pick a Dylan tune we haven't heard half a billion times.

Maybe ponder whether of all songwriters ever born, Dylan is the right guy to use for an action scene? Sometimes it can work - All Along the Watchtower/BSG - not that that was a straightforward action scene in the least - and whatever BSG was doing right, this show doesn't have the same sensibilities. It's far more standard fare and shouldn't aim that high.
