Map Question: Direct Line Between...

Gliese 361 and iota Leonis, if anyone can figure it out before I get the right database installed into Gaia Sky...? I can't seem to find Gl 361 with Celestia or Gaia Sky. Yet.

Yes, there's a Star Trek fanfic project involved.

According to this page, one of the designations for Gliese 361 is HIP 47513, which is in the Celestia Catalogue. iota Leonis is list as Tsze Tseang A and B.
The distance between them is 46.71 lys according to Celestia

@DEWLine anyway, I was fast enough to help.

Ah, thanks much!

Next step is to figure out if there's any systems within 1-2 parsecs of any point along the route to serve as good stopovers...

Well, flying back and forth in Celestia between HIP 47513 (Gliese 361) and Tsze Tseang A (iota Leonis A), the only star I saw that seemed to 'pass by' was delta Leonis, listed in Celestia as Zosma.
It's 28.69 lys from HIP 47513 and 22.3 lys from Tsze Tseang, so a total route length of 50.99 lys (compared to the direct route of 46.71 lys).

There, of course, could be others that I didn't see but come on, Zosma...

Two more possibilities from Celestia, found by selecting each entry in the Star Browser closer to HIP 47513 than Tzse Tseang and noting the ones in the direction of the latter star:
Designation(s)------------------------------Spectral Class---------------Distance to 47513---------Distance to Tzse Tseang
HIP 56238......................................................M1....................................... 25.89 ................................28.76
HIP 53486 / HD 94765 /SAO 118578.............K0....................................... 24.99 .................................22.48

The star you mentioned isn't in my version of Celestia's database.

GJ 3652 seems pretty darned obscure, doesn't it. Too dim as well, and Zosma's too young. Your choices seem better.

HIP 56238 AKA Gl 430.1 AKA Ross 903 is M2V.
HIP 53486 AKA HD 94765 AKA SAO 118578 AKA GY Leonis AKA GJ 3633 is K0V.

Yeah, Zosma is young but not too young for planets. Jupiter is estimated to have formed within the Solar System's first 3 million years after all and Zosma is 200-300 times older than that. So planets are a possibility
Too young for those planets to have life though, at least without help.

But, hey, this is Star Trek and how often do you get handed a RL name like Zosma for your fictional interstellar outpost?

You're right that Zosma should become a plot point somewhen down the line. SNW seems the best venue right now. I wouldn't consider it out of bounds to LDS, though.

Zosma (as Delta leonis) is in Beta Canon:
https://memory-beta.fandom.com/wiki/Delta_Leonis
apparently it has a settlement known for shady deals.

i'd guess some sort of stopover port for commercial routes (perhaps a sort of 'space truckstop' for ships to refuel and get a quick bit of R&R during a long trip) that is just enough off the normal beaten path that smugglers and such like to go there.

I could also see a rogue planet being captured by any of these stars…with who knows what thawing out…shades of Aldiss’ Helliconia.

A captured rogue planet could easily be older than the new host star…all bets are off.

Sounds good. I'd be interested to see what sort of highways, tangents and routes can be plotted... including vertically, or 'between' some of the major Empires, too.
We got a hint of that with the 'Obol for Charon' map in Discovery.

And maybe, the Hekaras Corridor, is similar, too? But more geographically, than politically, defined.
