Man Robs Convenience Stores With Klingon Sword

There's going to be a sudden surge in tribble sales as shopkeepers invest in them for security. :D

I love the comments on that site.

Today is a good day to rob.

It's a faaaaaaaake!

Now would be a good time for 7-Eleven's to invest in hiring the Borg as security. "We are the Borg. Robberies are futile. You will be assimilated into prison. Existence, as you know it, is over . From this time forward, you will service inmates in prison."

I can't believe the clerk didn't fight back. This cowardice will stain his family honour for three generations!

Funny, JuanBolio didn't mention he was going to Colorado...
When committing armed robbery on Earth, I use human weapons exclusively.

It would look nice and hold an edge like nothing else, however:

-If the whole thing was carbide, it would cost well over $100,000 to have it made.

-It would shatter if you drop it on a hard surface (like concrete), or if you were to find yourself in a situation where you had to use it to parry an attack from another Bat'leth.
True. Surgical scalpels and some medieval masterworks rapiers are made of steel with a tungsten alloy along the edge. For a heavy weapon like a Bat'leth, this isn't really necessary. High carbon steel would work just fine.

Tungsten Carbide.

Tungsten Carbide is unbreakable and scratch proof.

Tungsten Carbide is unbreakable and scratch proof.
It's fairly strong and very scratch resistant, but it's not indestructible.

When I did CVD titanium coating I (and others) broke carbide tools sometimes. If the parts are able to strike other carbide parts or hardened steel they'll chip fairly easily. Once I broke a punch in half by dropping it on a concrete floor (doesn't happen often, but it does happen.)

In some ways tungsten carbide is very strong, but in other ways it's a lot like glass. If I can find the carbide inserts I have, I can make a video and show you what happens when I hit one with a hammer if you want.

Exactly. Strong, but brittle. You want a sword to be more likely to bend than snap, which is why carbon steel is the preferred material.

^ Well, it would look really nice.

However, if it's only for display, there are cheaper materials that'll look just as nice. I don't know if it could cost over $100,000 like I said earlier. A lot of the cost of carbide tools is precision (we're talking microns here), but it would still probably cost a lot more than having one made out of gold or platinum.

A sad day for the Klingon Empire, this warrior should have committed hara-kiri and disemboweled himself in front Earth cops rather than being taken prisoner by these puny humans.

Don't you mean seppuku?

Never mind, I see its a form of seppuku.
