Kirk normally battle at warp speed.
I know that 24th century tech should be better, but there is a lot of on screen (some just dialog, do to lack of sfx) evidence that the 23rd century ships could kick the crap out of 24th century counter parts.

Kirk doesn't have a tactical maneuver named after him, Picard does, so he must have some tricks and tactics up his sleeve Kirk's never seen.

We see 23rd Century holdover ships getting trashed by stuff that 24th Century ships aren't trashed by in DS9. So I don't think so.
