"Maleficent" movie finally starting to happen

I don't know about you, but in all the years that Disney has been making movies, no villain has scared me more than Maleficent. Even now, as a grown up man, I still find her absolutely terrifying, and she's the main reason that "Sleeping Beauty" is my favorite Disney film.

There were rumors a few years back that Disney was looking into a live-action movie telling the story of Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie, and it looks like it's finally starting to happen! I've never been a huge Jolie fan, but I'm still very excited to see how this turns out. I hope she turns into a dragon!

As a kid I always wanted her to win the final battle in the movie, I thought she was awesome.

I really don't want to picture Jolie as her though.

She's fucking terrifying. She threatens to murder a baby because she wasn't invited to her birthday party. That's pretty fucked up.

I almost wish this wasn't going to be kid-friendly. You could do some really dark stuff with this character.

I feel the same way about Maleficent and Sleeping Beauty, RoJoHen. The part where Maleficent turned into a dragon used to scare the crap out of me when I was a wee lad.

I'm not a fan of Angelina Jolie persay, but, I've found that I like her in several of her roles (Gia, Changeling, Beowulf, Taking Lives, Girl Interupted, Foxfire, Hackers, etc), so, I think it's just her Public Persona/Hype that I dislike, not her acting skills, so, I think she could do a fantastic job.

She looks fantastic in that picture, must find the time to obtain and watch Sleeping Beauty, as I've mentioned in the Once Upon a Time Thread, I've never actually sat and watched it, just seen scenes here and there

I've never really had an urge to see Sleeping Beauty, might have to watch it now reading some of these comments.

It's one of the super early Disney movies, before they started being musicals (though there is a song or two) with awesome memorable characters. Prince Philip...Briar Rose...as main characters, they're pretty forgettable. What I do love about it, though, is that it's such a classic Good vs. Evil story, where Evil is really evil, and true love conquers all.

Also, there's a drunk scene. :p

As a horny child, I found Maleficent strangely attractive.

BANZAI!!!!!!

The evil cartoon queens and witches were hot sometimes. Disney realized this and made the witch in The Little Mermaid extra-repulsive.

There's even a Woody Allen movie (Annie Hall?) where Woody confesses to having a crush on the Wicked Queen from Snow White. Naturally, being a neurotic, he takes this as proof that there's something wrong with him . . . .

Urgh. I've been looking forward to this movie, but if they're going to just do the standard SFX heavy, hack chop writing, then I'm not interested. I want to see a more adult movie with Maleficent at the center of it. Let her be truly, deliciously evil. This trailer doesn't look at all promising to me.

Hopefully it will end up being spectacular, because if you're going to make a movie about one of the greatest Disney villains ever, you have to do it right, and it has to be spectacularly good, and by that I don't mean SFX, I mean tight writing, great plotline, solid acting chops. Do it right, Disney.

I'm... not seeing the awfulness here.

me either.

[In response to you both]

It's probably more a matter of taste, but I'm not liking the special effects. Odd as that may sound, there are elements being used in the trailer that put me off. I don't like the look of the CGI, I don't like the music in the trailer (I don't think it suits what is being portrayed), and I'm not convinced of the actress playing Sleeping Beauty/Aurora, though I will give her a chance.

On the other hand, Angelina Jolie looks damned good as Maleficent, her demeanor and her behavior seems like it casts the proper pall over things, and I'm just really hoping she turns out to be deliciously evil, like the original Maleficent I've come to know and love.

Looks okay to me. Since the previous link no longer works, here is one:
