I can't see her running the switchboard while co-ordinating security teams for various details. (Even if Worf did the same in TNG)

NERYS MYK - You are correct, in those situations she would have to hand off Communications station to an lower grade communications officer to man that station; while she is planet-side directing the security team with the big 3.
