Make your NHL playoff predictions here!

I demand a recount....

Ok:

(6) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (1) Montreal Canadiens:
I don't know what to expect of these Habitants. I can't believe they went to 7 with the Bruins, and I can't believe they won the East. I'm going to go with the upset though and say Flyers in 6.

(5) New York Rangers vs. (2) Pittsburgh Penguins:
This will be a great series. Great goaltending vs two prolific young scorers. New York has the better defense I think, but I'm going to go with those young Penguins and say Pens in 7.

In the West:

(6) Colorado Avalanche vs. (1) Detroit Red Wings
Detroit looked miserable at times in their series with Nashville. Colorado looked great and shut down Gaborik and Demitra. I'm going to say Avs in 6.

(5) Dallas Stars vs. (2) San Jose Sharks:
I hate Dallas for some reason, so I'm going to go with that and say Sharks in 7.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Montreal Canadiens
I'm going the upset route as well:
Philadelphia in 6

New York Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
New York in 7

Colorado Avalanche vs. Detroit Red Wings
Detroit in 7 (although I'm not confident about this pick)

Dallas Stars vs. San Jose Sharks
Even though my picks in the office pool are heavily weighted towards SJ, I'm now picking Dallas in 6.

Flyers in 5
Penguins in 6
Colorado in 7
San Jose in 6

I tend to not be good at this but oh well, we'll see how it goes

I can understand the envy of non-Habs fans whose teams are centuries from equaling the number of Cup banners in the rafters
Like one reported said there were only 6 teams when Montreal won all those cups, it doesn't make them a Dynasty.
(they had a one in six shot, the odds were better I give you that, hell in Canada cup 76 againt the Russians our hose didn't pull for Montreal, and I love America. I have many relitives there.)

Ah yes, only 6 teams. So it would be understandable for those six to have their name inscribed tons of times on the cup. Let's see, we have Toronto with 13. Not bad. Detroit, "Hockeytown" itself has ten and five, four and three respectively for the Bruins, the Rangers and the Blackhawks.

Strange. These teams have been around as long as the Habs and only surpass the number of wins when we combine three or four of the other five teams.

And a dynasty isn't determined by simple championship wins. The players, the coaches, the fans, the city and the interaction and history of these elements— they all play an important part in forming a dynasty and it is these elements along with all those wins, that make Le Club de Hockey Canadien a dynasty.

Really? Your own math proves that wrong. Each team had a one in six shot--the Habs were better more often. Pretty much sums up a sports dynasty.

But hey, let's examine this further.

Cup wins AFTER expansion:
1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978. 1979, 1986, 1993--what's that spell? TEN Cups. How many POST-EXPANSION teams have come close to TEN Cups? Answer: NONE. Certainly none of the OTHER "original six" (the closest one in TOTAL cups is Toronto and they have exactly ZERO cups in the post-expansion era). Chicago? Zero. Boston? Two. Detroit? Three. Rangers? One. All the other "original six" combined aren't even close.

Now, admittedly, the Habs haven't been a force since the early 90s and their consistent dominance ended in 1979, but I think EIGHT cups in eleven seasons in the POST-expansion era constitutes a "dynasty" and, overall, beating out the same odds facing other teams more often and more consistently is NOT really a sound argument for discrediting their wins (though it is a sign of sour grapes from those whose own teams can't compete with such a record). So while you are perfectly free to dislike, even hate, the Habs--let's not pretend it has nothing to do with the fact that whatever team you do root for can't even hope to put together the kind of dynastic record the Habs have amassed.

East:

Montreal over Philly in 6
Pittsburgh over NYR in 5

West:

Detroit over Colorado in 5
Dallas over San Jose in 7

Montréal over Philadelphia in 6.
Pittsburgh over New York in 7.
Colorado over Detroit in 7.
San Jose over Dallas in 6.

This is going to be a long round. Honestly, I think San Jose might be lucky to get past Dallas in 6 after stumbling against Calgary. Otherwise I feel pretty confident about my picks.

Montreal in 6. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate Philly? Well that hasn;t changed, but I think much of that hate stems from Clark...
Not cool, man! You hate all of Philadelphia because of me? :(

Oh, you mean Clarke.

That's right all, keep underestimating the Red Wings. They stomped the Avs today and are leading 2-0 in the series. Since they swapped out Hasek for Osgood, they've won four straight games.

Yeah I suppose I do. :o

Are you Superman? Wait, aren't you a girl?
Clark is my surname. Bob Clarke would share a name with my grandfather if not for that pretentious 'e.'
