Make your NHL playoff predictions here!

Haha All I know is that the Avs are going to lose becase I want them to win :D

East
Montreal in 5
Pittsburgh in 6
Washington in 7
New Jersey in 7

West
Detroit in 5
San Jose in 6
Minnesota in 7
Dallas in 7

Stanley Cup: As much as I'd like to see the Wild go all the way, I'm going to say Detroit.

In the East:

(8) Boston Bruins vs. (1) Montreal Canadiens
Boston just squeaked in and have been inconsistent at best all year. Habs have defied all expectations all season long, have a killer power play, and a coach that knows how to win a cup. Always a good series between these two, btw.

Montreal in 6.

(7) Ottawa Senators vs. (2) Pittsburgh Penguins
Probably the worst matchup Ottawa could have asked for in the first round. Defense and goaltending is horrible. No Alfredsson, no Fisher. Done and done.

Get out yer broom, Pens in 4.

(6) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (3) Washington Capitals
Philly has also been inconsistent all year while the Caps have been on an incredible run. Key here is Ovechkin (what Dmen are Philly going to match him up with??). He's going to light it up.

Caps in 5.

(5) New York Rangers vs. (4) New Jersey Devils
Toughest call of the East 1st round. Will Jagr show up? If he does, then watch out. Lundqvist is an awesome goalie, but I think the decision will go to Mr Dependable, Martin Brodeur.

Devils in 7

In the West:

(8) Nashville Predators vs. (1) Detroit Red Wings
Nashville is only in the playoffs due to the Canucks' complete collapse. Just cna't match the depth of Detroit.

Wings in 5.

(7) Calgary Flames vs. (2) San Jose Sharks
The Flames are utterly useless. Kipper and Iggy will probably steal them a game or two, but San Jose is a different team with Campbell, plus Thornton, Michalek and Marleau are starting to peak - also, Marleau has the most playoff goals in the past 3 years in the NHL.

Sharks in 6.

(6) Colorado Avalanche vs. (3) Minnesota Wild
Tough call, both teams are playing awesome hockey right now. If Forsberg stays healthy, the Avs win. If he doesn't, it's the Wild.

That's why I'm going with Wild in 6.

(5) Dallas Stars vs. (4) Anaheim Ducks
Dallas has looked terrible as of late. Richards was a good accquisition, but won't put them over the top against these rested Anaheim palyers (Niedermayer, Pronger, Selanne, even Perry). Anaheim is just too tough and has too much depth compared to Dallas to lose.

Ducks in 6.

Also, who do you predict will go all the way to win Lord Stanley's cup?
I'd like to say San Jose, so I'm going to say San Jose.

Anybody BUT Calgary, Montreal or Colorado, in the final.

(8) Boston Bruins vs. (1) Montreal Canadiens- Montreal in 6
(7) Ottawa Senators vs. (2) Pittsburgh Penguins - Penguins in 7
(6) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (3) Washington Capitals - Capitals in 6
(5) New York Rangers vs. (4) New Jersey Devils - Devils in 6

In the West:

(8) Nashville Predators vs. (1) Detroit Red Wings - Wings in 5
(7) Calgary Flames vs. (2) San Jose Sharks - Sharks in 5
(6) Colorado Avalanche vs. (3) Minnesota Wild - Wild in 6
(5) Dallas Stars vs. (4) Anaheim Ducks - Ducks in 7

Anybody BUT Calgary, Montreal or Colorado, in the final.
Why? Just curious. I can understand the envy of non-Habs fans whose teams are centuries from equaling the number of Cup banners in the rafters ;) , but why Calgary and Colorado? Or do you really think everyone except those three have a shot?

If I wanted to see this Avs team win a Cup, I'd get into my time machine and zip back to 1996. That way, I could also smoke on airplanes and have some wooly mammoth steaks.

Montreal in 6
Pittsburgh in 5
Washington in 6
New Jersey in 7

Detroit in 5
San Jose in 6
Anaheim in 4
Colorado in 7

In the East:

Canadiens in 5
Penguins in 6
Capitals in 5
Devils in 4

In the West:

Red Wings in 4
Sharks in 6
Avalanche in 5
Ducks in 6

I'm useless at predictions and I haven't been following this season so I won't bother randomly picking teams, I'm just glad that some of you think the Avs will make it through the first round!

At the time of this posting there is still 20 minutes left in the Sharks/Flames game but it's 5-2 Sharks and I want to go to bed so nuts.

Well the conference quarter finals are now over and we have our winners:

In the East:
Montreal Canadiens in 7
Pittsburgh Penguins in 4
Philadelphia Flyers in 7
New York Rangers in 5

In the West:
Detroit Red Wings in 6
San Jose Sharks in 7
Colorado Avalanche in 6
Dallas Stars in 6

And here is how we did in predicting the quarter-finals. The ranking is based first on the number of winning teams correctly predicted, second by the prediction of the number of games it would take for them to win and in case of a tie, the first person to have made the prediction will be placed ahead.

  1. Rygel XIX picked 7 winners and was off by 9 games.
  2. tomalak301 picked 7 winners and was off by 11 games.
  3. The Habs Fan picked 6 winners and was off by 7 games.
  4. DBR picked 6 winners and was off by 9 games.
  5. the 4th hanson bro picked 5 winners and was off by 5 games.
  6. Duke picked 5 winners and was off by 5 games.
  7. Ariadne picked 5 winners and was off by 6 games.
  8. RyanLevy picked 5 winners and was off by 6 games.
  9. Seven of eleven picked 5 winners and was off by 7 games.
  10. Pegaritaville picked 5 winners and was off by 7 games.
  11. Ovation picked 5 winners and was off by 8 games.
  12. BigFoot picked 5 winners and was off by 8 games.
  13. Garak picked 4 winners and was off by 3 games.
  14. Johnnyracefan picked 4 winners and was off by 7 games.
  15. Derishton picked 3 winners and was off by 5 games.

So hats off to Rygel XIX for his success so far and special mention to tomalak; for some reason, I really like the fact that you have seven, off eleven. However, we are still far from having our Stanley Cup champions and these ratings can change.

Now on to the predictions for the semi-finals:

In the East:

(6) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (1) Montreal Canadiens
(5) New York Rangers vs. (2) Pittsburgh Penguins

In the West:

(6) Colorado Avalanche vs. (1) Detroit Red Wings
(5) Dallas Stars vs. (2) San Jose Sharks

East:

Habs in 6
Pens in 5

West:

Sharks in 7 (Another grueling series to come)

Red Wings in 6

Montreal in 6. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate Philly? Well that hasn;t changed, but I think much of that hate stems from Clark, Lindros... and the colour orange. Habs are a real solid team, though I am little less confident in them as I was before the 1st round.

Pittsburgh in 7. I plan on watching this series. Both teams are solid, and I pray every noght that someone will end Sean Avery's career. Oops, did I just say that out loud? Well you're all thinking it! Could go either way, I wouldn't be so quick to write off teh Rangers.

Detroit in 6. Tough call. I am just throwing this number out, bt I think Detroit will advance. The wings are notorious chokers, though.

Sharks in 7. I don''t know what you'd call their system or style of play--"defensive hockey", where they park five players in front of their crease?--but it was damn effective against Calgary. Superb in goal, and ability to score. I think Dallas will steal a few, though.
