Make Pike a bad guy...

Strangely enough, in an interview with JJ Abrams, he didn't exclude the possibility of Peter Graves appearing in MI:4
As who though? They already had Jon Voight play him in the first film. (And yes I KNOW Graves plyed him in the series.)

They should talk to Steven Hill, if he's still among the living!!

He's retired now. He was on Law & Order (Original) since the beginning until a few years ago. He was the old DA, Adam Schiff.

And maybe they can just forget/ignore the abomination called Mission: Impossible (the 1st movie). Greg Morris (the original Barney) walked out of the theater after an hour disgusted.

I liked the first one. Then again, I was never really watched the TV series, so any of the changes didn't bother me in the least. The only problem I had with the movie was that, out of nowhere, Hunt all of a sudden knew that Jim Phelps was the bad guy, even though he had no reason whatsoever to think this.

Robert April will be the villain in the next movie.

Robert April never existed and was never canonically part of Star Trek. ;)

Good thing we are in a new universe then. :p

True. I think that if they bring him on, though, they should write him against fan expectations - make him a loser who can't keep a job rather than a Starfleet officer, for example.

They should make him the wacky next door neighbor who comes over to the Enterprise all the time to borrow things and present get-rich-quick schemes.

Yeah, go for sort of a "The Honeymooners" kind of thing - but is he the sewer worker or the bus driver?

It'll be a running gag that we don't know what he does, other than he does something when we don't see him which makes up his hilarious off-screen tales he amuses Kirk with.

He'll also have a catchphrase and, anytime he enters, a tracked in audience will applaud.

The next movie will be darker, it will deal with Kirk becoming the man we know he eventually becomes.

This will likely involve a serious situation calling for difficult command decisions that ultimately lead to an 'event' death. Pike will have the role of mentor, the man who inspires Kirk to be all he can be, he may be aboard the ship, he may be on another ship but he will have a pivitol role in the movie.

I suspect something awful will happen to him regardless. He may even sacrifice himself thus inspiring others to understand duty, devotion blah blah blah.

Ultimately, it will be a death or disability that will be hotly debated for years on TBBS as not 'worthy of the man'.

My thought exactly.

I do want hm to oppose Kirk in the next film on a philosophical level. Though that's probably above Orci and Kurtzman. So poor Pike will end up as the evil Starfleet Admiral out to destroy Kirk. :(

You think? I believe they wouldn't screw it up like that.

Between Transformers, Transformers 2 and Star Trek, I have little faith in these two being able to do anything other than slam-bang action. I'm convinced that if the cast of Star Trek hadn't been as strong as it was... the film would've been laughed out of theaters.

I'm sorry you felt that way. Actually I think that the two are pretty aware of what their respective audience expects, and write their scripts accordingly.

But then again, I'm the ultimate optimist. And I like Transformers- mainly because I like the male lead.

Don't feel bad for me! :p

I still enjoyed the film, something magical about seeing the original characters on the big screen again. The casting and effects were outstanding, script and ship designs... not so much. I'm just going to be expecting more from a sequel than I think Orci and Kurtzman can deliver. Hope like hell I'm wrong.

Maybe this idea might seem unoriginal, by taking someones "mentor" and turning them into a baddy, but I think it could work and really up the stakes with the emotional aspect of the next film.

Maybe along with Pike doing negative things behind the scenes, it can tie into Starfleet getting involved in some pretty deep @#@! they have no business getting into.

Put it this way, I'd rather see THAT, then have some rehash of Khan in the next movie.

You don't even have to make Pike's character overtly bad, because you can give him some sincere motivations for whatever it is he is doing, only to backfire badly.

Just a thought..

No if they were to do a Captain turned villain they should do Garth of Izar, it would fit better with Trek lore and cannon. Garth by the way if you remember was a man Kirk looked up to as a cadet, a real hero, who lost his mind when he was rebuilt as it were by an alien race of shapeshifters. Garth could easily appear in one film as a hero then in the next betray Kirk and the federation becoming instead a monster; once very noble now a true villain.

IS THE PARKING BRAKE ON?!?? LET'S PUNCH IT!!!!
Back to the shouting thread with you.

What if Pike went rogue, and Kirk is assigned (or requests) to be the one to bring him back home, only to find that Pike has his reasons for going against regulations and stealing a ship, something personal? (PIKE: I have to do this Jim, you wouldn't understand. KIRK, Try me, maybe I can help, don't make me disable your ship). But before learning the truth, Pike and Kirk square off in an epic chess game of a Kahn-esque space battle (but bigger). Once the true conflict is revealed (ENTER: The Romulan threat), Kirk and Pike battle side by side and Pike has to save Kirk and his crew by sacrificing himself.... GLORIOUS !!!

You don't understand - they're deservedly successful through their own efforts and years of work, wealthy and clearly enjoying themselves. They are therefore destined to be scorned by fanboys on the Internet, who for the most part are 0 for 3.
