Well the whole purpose of the movie was to be more Star Wars like.
the nabooian sounding hand weapons
Yeah I can see the parallels there, but quite frankly the Phasers in Nu-Trek are the most realistic looking and sounding so far in the Franchise
Warp sounds like Hyperspace jumps
Again, yes theres a certain "Star Wars" feel to it, but in actual fact, A ship going FTL will not create cool streaks of light, rather it will very quickly cease to be in the same place, the jump and subsequent loud sonic boom is added for dramatic effect
Big Monsters tend to roam the planets now and make pointless appearances
Pointless appearance perhaps, but the way I see it, it was to show that non-humanoid races exist, besides we've seen similar creatures before, in the guise of the Vulcan Sehlat
Dreadfully large super weapons
If you are referring to the Narada, bear in mind its a ridiculously large Mining Ship thats been modified into a Battleship, if your referring to the Drill, well it least it had a plausible physical function, rather than taking the easy route and Phasering a hole into the core and why could they not just Phaser it? Maybe the residual Radiation interferes with the function of the "Red Matter" and would make it unsafe for the Narada and her crew
Even the plot holes are reminiscent of New Star Wars.
I'm not saying the film is perfect, after all it was Written, Produced and Directed by people completely new to the franchise (JJ Abrams even admitted he was more of a fan than a Trekkie and hadn't seen many episodes), but you have to admit its the most wide-audience appealing of the entire series, its brought more people to the franchise and quite frankly, apart from a few glitches, its captures everything that makes Trek, Trek...
