MAJOR earthquake in New Zealand

Wow.. Just hearing about this now after being on the road all day.. So sad.. Seems this area has been rife with quakes since last year. :(

65 confirmed dead so far!

Will probably rise once they get into the collapsed buildings, crushed cars, etc.

Shaping up to be one of our worst ever disasters, if not the worst!

Thankfully, I'm in the top half of the North Island, so I'm well away from the 'action' - thank goodness!

Just watched the news, I've been hearing about it on the radio while on the road today, but seeing it really brings it home. My thoughts are with everyone in Christchurch, if anyone has family there I hope they're safe!

Nice to see the NZ authorities spring into quick action... they will save a LOT of lives...but many will be lost..

Here's hoping they do OK..

Technomage, NCC1701, tomorrow I'm going to organise blood donations at my work and through facebook. Can you guys do something similar?

I was looking at some before and after photos of Christchurch's CBD a short while ago. It's horrific. :(

Prayers and good thoughts for everyone across the ditch.

Ouch... An ex colleague is out there but safe. Also have online friends in the area.

Anyone heard from Miss Chicken? Does she live anywhere near? I don't know any others from this board in the area but I hope as many people as possible stay safe and well.

I run a one man business from a small town on the Coromandel Peninsula, so there's only me! However, our town is pretty community spirited, so people will be doing whatever they can.

Nice that you thought of me. However I am in Tasmania which is the other side of the Tasman sea from New Zealand.

I think Candlelight in Dunedin is the only Trekbbs member who lives on the South Island.

I have a former boyfriend who is from Christchurch. I hope his family is OK. I might pop down to the market on Saturday and ask him. He puts on a blacksmithing display at the market each Saturday.

I'm the only one in my 3-man band that is my work who is elegible to donate blood, but my girlfriend and I already planned to donate on Thursday, so it's sort of taken care of already!

This is terrible. :( CNN is still reporting 65 dead. Hopefully nobody else has been killed, but it seems almost certain more bodies will be found.
