Majel Barrett Roddenberry Has Died

This is truly a sad day for those of us who saw Majel do a wide variety of characters. It brings to mind a novel by Christopher Bennett called "Deus Ex Machina." (If I got any of this wrong, let me know.)

Anyway, McCoy thinks he's alone in his quarters when he hears a female voice say something like "Doctor, you're needed in Sickbay. McCoy grumbles in response: "Computer off."

But the voice continued trying to get Bones out of bed. He looked up and there was Dr. Chapel, who had used a medical emergency code to get in those quarters.

"You think I sound like a computer?" Chapel replied.

She was indeed the First Lady of Star Trek.

RIP, Majel. Thank you for all your contributions to Trek over the years, and for keeping Gene's vision alive....

That's cute. She did indeed have some solid range. She split most of the voice work for guest characters on TAS with Nichelle Nichols and James Doohan and of course played Number One, Nurse Chapel, Lwaxana Troi, the computer on all six series, and Dr. Bellman on Earth: Final Conflict. Just within Ambassador Troi she showed her chops, but each of her other roles were obviously very different from that one.

I'm sorry, I know this is a sad occasion, but that scene just made me  a bit.

I definitely like it better than this earlier TOS novel where it's said that the computer voice was based on Number One...

:(

RIP, Majel Barrett Roddenberry. You will be missed.

I was sorry to hear about her passing. I always liked her and she was an important part of Star Trek since the beginning. My condolances to her family and friends.

I'm glad we'll get to hear her once again in the new film. Hopefully, they'll dedicate it to her.

In some ways, she seemed like an ambassador of Star Trek. She was the only person involved in every aspect of it. Plus, she was just so classy and carried herself with dignity. Great person all around.

RIP Majel Barrett Roddenberry, you will be missed :(

I'm on the verge of breaking down now, hearing this. I only just got online to engage in my usual read thru of TrekBBS. This headline caught me eye and I literally can't believe it. I don't think I've ever seen anybody so full of life, as Majel was... whether as Lwaxana Troi or Doctor Chapel.

My thoughts go out to Rod Roddenberry, and all those who've known and had the pleasure of meeting the First Lady of Star Trek.

The novel's name is actually just "Ex Machina".

Last night I watched the Cage. It wasn't in rememberence of her but it might have well been. Majel was probably the biggest contributer to Star Trek next to her husband. She will be missed, but it's great to know she has finally reunited with Gene in heaven.

RIP Majel. :(

Sad... not entirely unexpected as she was 76, but Lwaxana was pretty funny... she seemed to have quite a bit of talent in many aspects of the industry.

I think I liked her a bit more that Gene too... but may they both rest in peace.
