Magic bridge corridor!

I've seen Into Darkness so often, I can't believe I've only noticed this now!

The door and other corridor are always there in ST'09.

Hmmm.... maybe the corridor contains some kind of blast door that can be opened and closed? It does say "airlock" on the doorway, but that would make no sense because that's still an entire hallway that would have to be decompressed if it was an airlock

Isn't that supposed to be a turbolift? Obviously, the back wall is a display that shows a number of available destinations, just as with Iconian gateways!

No, in Trek '09, that's the same door Kirk and McCoy run through to warn Pike about the Romulan attack on Vulcan.

No, it's just an airlock which leads into the corridor running behind the bridge. The turbolift is in the corresponding spot on the opposite (port) side.

And the one Chekov used on his way to the transporter room to save Kirk and Sulu's bacon. Also: here.

While it's never been seen as such, I always thought it was simply a turbolift with two doors which, when not in use AS a lift, had both doors open to allow passage through to the immense corridors beyond.

Weird, from the set plans we've seen, it seems like the more detailed one without the simple corridor wall fits the configuration of the plans.

Based on other ST productions, most of the bridge scenes seem to be filmed over the course of a multi-day shoot, I wonder if they moved stuff around in the halls for other scenes, then had to do some reshoots later for a couple of the bridge scenes, hence the discrepency?

EDIT: with regard to Maurice's angle comment, it seems like the shot of Kirk in the doorway is at an angle that the deeper detail should be seen. I agree for the shot of Carol that the angle we're seeing is just the other side of the corridor.

I don't understand why the doorway to the corridor is labeled "Airlock"... Is it like Stromberg's underwater hideout, where instead of being sent to the shark tank, people Kirk doesn't like are jettisoned into space when they enter the turbolift?

Because it is an airlock. There are two sets of doors—one opening on the bridge, one on the corridor—with a space between which can be isolated from both. Visible here, and another example can be seen in the Corridor B panorama from the official site.

Because it is an airlock......

My question was actually along the lines of: Why is the doorway to the corridor an AIRLOCK? Then it was a joke.

Couldn't the hatch for the airlock be on the ceiling of that little room? Given the size of the saucer and the position of the bridge, it seems like a verticlal airlock in that location would be ideally situated for use as a bridge-accessible docking port.

It might very well be an airlock — meant to seal off the bridge from the corridor if there's a breach. Seems a lot of the doors on nuTrek's Enterprise have a double-set of doors —*outer and inner, suggesting that the compartments could be sealed in case of the hall is punctured.
