Haven't played seriously since 2002? I'm very tempted to pick up the collector's edition though. They added a lot of features that kind of makes it worth looking at.
That's "Head Coach". It's included in the Collector's edition or available separately down the line. No idea if it's any good though.
I've been disappointed by Madden for years. Madden 2008 has done it in for me. That bug filled piece of garbage had a constant freezing problem that EA knew about, yet did nothing. I could never get past year 7 of franchise because of this.
I thought about getting 09 in the hopes that they would have fixed it, but from googling it looks as if it still has the same problem with freezing sometimes (not as much apparently) and others with player progression and AI running oob glitch. I will rent it when the 2nd patch comes out and see how it fairs then.
I am definitely looking forward to the Head Coach 09 though. When it is sold separately in September I'm pretty sure I am going to buy it.

'06 was just sad... After a month or so, I just went back to '05. But so far, I am lovin '09
Strangely, someone owns the CFL license. I kind of wish EA would just do the CFL game as a side league, like NFL Europe. Yeah, the rules are different, but it's close enough.
EA should include the CFL league in the Madden games just like they include the Finnish, Swedish, German, Czech, Russian, AHL leagues in their NHL games.
The only difference is that as far as I know, the NHL games include the International Rules, so it's just a matter of doing the rosters.
I guess they don't want to implement CFL rules. I mean, the people who own the rights to a CFL game haven't done anything with it, so EA could just buy them out... but whatever.

Does this Madden have an option where if you play in franchise mode (or any other I guess) that it will update your rosters "real time" according to the real NFL rosters?
I think only the NBA game is doing that this year?
There was a day 1 roster update patch, wasn't there?
The NBA thing is cool, even though I'll never buy an NBA game. Basically it tracks stats all year long, changing the "ratings" of each team. So if a crappy team does well, they can potentially move up to a 90+ team after the update.
This applies to the players too - so if someone misses half his shots, their shooting score goes down.
