The best action film I've seen in a long time -- and there's a lot of action here; apart from a brief bit in the middle, it's pretty much non-stop, and perfectly paced. This is the film Michael Bay has been failing to make his entire career (okay, Michael Bay would never try to make a feminist parable, but you get the idea; the connection is further called to mind by the presence of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who made her film debut ass-first in Bay's Transformers 3).
My only real criticism of is that whatever idea Miller started out with for a Mad Max film, in the final product it really feels like Max didn't need to be in it at all. Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa drives the plot, has the most/best characterization, and leaves Max himself feeling kind of superfluous (though omitting him would have required them to reconceptualize the brilliant action scenes, so perhaps it's justified on those grounds). Even Nicholas Hoult's character feels like he has more motivation/role in the story.
