Macross Frontier (tv). Coming in 2008!

Well better that as an explanation than somehow trying to explain it away as the SDF-1. We all know that it's parked on Earth after the whole Sharon Apple incident. ;)

Another fake-out :(

Oh well I'm happy we got more bits of Ranka's past and now things are really heating up.

Is Grace dead? I wonder if she's kind of like a human form cylon and can download to a new body though.

Next episode looks to have some sweet space battling.

I'm guessing that Grace will be back. I'm trying to figure out what exactly her and Leon's conspiracy is really all about. Right now it seems just a little too random to guess, like their whole plan of attack is just to cause as much destruction as possible. I think there's more to it than just keeping any NUNS involvement in Vajra creation/hybernation/whatnot a secret, but it could just be a very convuluted plan to do just that.

Episode 14 / "Mother's Lullabye" has JUST aired!

Hard to believe this series is half over.

SDF:M went 36 episodes.
M7 went 49 episodes.

I wonder if Kawamori wants a second season.

Episode 15 / "Lost Peace" has aired! Deculture!

The original Macross series was supposed to end at 27; because of its popularity, they gave it nine more episodes. I don't expect this to happen again in the modern anime market. Macross 7 had 49 episodes, but had more than a few extraneous episodes that had nothing to do with the main story (three of them were actually excised from the main run). I trust Kawamori will end Frontier at 25 and probably go to OVAs for a follow-up story, like Macross 7 did, in a year or so.

It took me a while to understand this episode... Macross Galaxy, or at least agents and cyber agents from Galaxy are the true enemy directing the Vajira attacks? Also if I am not wrong, Sheryl and Ranka are distant cousins?

Yes to the first part to the second part I don't know. It sounded like Sheryl was part of some plan to possible turn people into something artificially and use their singing with some type of effect on fold waves.

Whereas it seems like Ranka may already genetically have those abilities and was what they were trying to duplicate with the project believing Ranka to have been lost?

BTW I think the Sheryl/Ranka singing throwdown for Alto's attention may be my highlight of the entire series to date... omg. Awesome.

We know Sheryl's last name is Nome.

We also know Ranka got her last name Lee from Ozuma Lee, who adopted her as a child. Which means Lee isn't Ranka's original last name. I remembered that during the Macross Zero reenactment episode, Ozuma mentioned something about Ranka being the descendant of Professor Mao Nome.

I don't know about anyone else, but it cannot be coincidence that the last name of both lead female characters are Nome. What's more, both characters have the ability to channel their song and emotions across light years.

Omg yes! I was in stitches watching the two girls fight over Alto :)

Just got into it with the five first episode, and so far, it's just WOW!
Need more! Mooore!

Ah so 16 explains why Sheryl's earrings behave the way the do and it's actually a reason that makes some sense with the whole fold crystal things.

I guess it was a means to extend whatever powers they were trying to experiment on Sheryl.

I'm a little confused on how the SMS head guy factors into things. Wasn't he the guy earlier in the series who was feeding video of the Vajra attack to Grace via his eye-implant? Or was that another Zentraedi? Or did Grace just 'hack him'?

Yeah, it looks so gorgeous it has a tendency to do that. ;)

The budget on this thing seems astronomical compared to other TV shows out right now. (They can do that because of the sheer size of the established fanbase for the franchise I imagine.) Nothing else I'm watching even remotely compares to the level of colors and detail. I'd be interested in the numbers myself.

I'm at the episode where they are on Gallia IV and the SDF-4 has lift off.
Am I allowed to say that Ranka is a tad annoying?

^"Deculture" is kind of like an all-purpose Zentradi word for surprise. It's what they said when they were first hit by singing and stuff in the original Macross -- IE, "This is culture?!" type of feeling. Apparently by Frontier's timeline, "deculture" has little to do with culture and just means shock, surprise, or confusion- -and to an extent, any powerful emotion. At least, that's what I've been able to gleam off of it.

In interweb speak, "Deculture!"="ZOMGWTF!!!"

BTW, can someone explain me the neologism that is "Deculture"?

Asian languages usually have audible sounds for end of sentence markers such as the question mark, exclamation marks and even fullstops. The Chinese end questions with "ma?", Singaporeans end sentences with "lah". In Macross, "Deculture" is used as an exclamation mark, representing shock or surprise.
