We've got an old application written in this, which lots of people have asked if we can upgrade to work on modern computer operating systems. Does anyone know anything about this program, cos I've been asked to look into it and know zip about it.

I'm not familiar with that environment, thus I can't make very detailed recommendations. Sometimes software written for an earlier Operating System (OS) versions works fine in the more recent OS versions.

Sometimes you can use an emulator or virtual machine to run an earlier version of the OS or even a different OS (like Linux, when the main OD is Windows). Those measures might not support large capacity storage devices/partitions or late model of peripherals like printers or external hard drives.

There are people out there who advertise to do this very thing (upgrade Director applications) but they're pretty expensive. I was just wondering if someone was either a) cheap or b) had an idiot's guide to doing it.

The mac and pc versions of director could make self-running windows .exe executables of projects.
(they did this so that they could run by themselves in a kiosk)

If you still have the program and project it can be recompiled to run by itself.

Do you have the original files for this? You could just download the 30 day demo from Adobe to see if the current version works with them. On the other hand, if you are trying to reverse engineer another person/company's work, you might not have much luck.
