Macrocosm & Fair Trade

JeffinOakland

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Macrocosm: Where Janeway pulls off a reasonably convincing Ellen Ripley impression.

Fair Trade: Where Neelix regresses back to his basic shitweasel personality like he does every time he feels the slightest bit of stress. Where Janeway forgets she's a Starship Captain and acts like everyone's strict but loving mom.

I remember liking "Fair Trade". Ethan Phillips is a charming enough actor, and whenever he was given a real story as Neelix he somehow managed to pull it off, despite the fact that the other 90% of the time he was saddled with terribly unfunny comedic relief. "Jetrel" is the better serious Neelix episode, though.

I don't remember anything about Macrocosm, except for some of the franchise's worst-looking CGI, but I'll give them a break since it was, what, 1996?

Ethan Phillips did a wonderful job. He had a tremendously inconsistent character. In one episode, we're supposed to like and respect him. In the very next episode, we're supposed to curl our lip at his obnoxious behavior and want to throw him out an airlock. Back and forth all through the series. Only a talented actor would have been able to manage that.

THIS IS.

What's the point of this thread?

Jeff is watching Voyager for the first time.

We are consoling him while he is losing his virginity.

UM.

Did any of the crew look at the monsters eating their way out and confuse them for their babies who needed love and cherishing?

Extant sucks.

2nd, actually. Its not in the waching, its in the rewatching. Besides, its not like anyone here has anything better to do with themselves, obviously.

Sort of difficult, when OP keeps mocking people for being here without anything better to do.

And I wasn't aroused, I was smoking a cigarette, which is my favorite pastime.

Macrocosm unlike many Voyager episodes at least succeeded in being what it was trying to be.

Can't say the same for Fair Trade. I like the idea of Neelix reverting to his mercantile instincts when he eels he's outgrowing his usefulness but the writers didn't have a clear enough vision of his character to write him with the confidence and subtlety of Quark that the episode needed to work.
