M*A*S*H The Martinis and Medicine Collection

Just picked this up and diving in!

MASH was such a good series. :)

EDIT

Had to return the set.

The shitty design of the box made it so that discs were all scratched up. I took back to BB and they told me I couldn't return it, that I had to exchange it. The cashier/clerk and I opened up two other sets they had and inspected the discs.

They looked like someone had rubbed them on Klinger's ass. Seriously. It was like someone took sandpaper to them. Out of the box!

Looking at reviews of the "Maritnis and Medicine" boxset it seems that this was a common problem with this set with many reviews reccomending removing the discs from the -very nice- box and putting them in individual sleeves. Fat lot of good that would do me for discs already scratched up.

The problem comes from the discs being in tight, coarse, cardboard "sleeves" in the "pages" of the box. Pulling them out alone probably scratches them up.

I'm really glad you posted this. To save space, I was considering selling my set, currently 1-6 plus 11, and then getting M&M. I'll get the remaining individual sets, now.

Too bad about the reunion specials, but they should have included AfterMASH and WALTER as bonuses. Given its short, uneven run, A-MASH may never see release.

I've seen another set set: THIS one. I'm not sure which set came out when or how this one differs from the M&M collection but if they both contain all of the episodes (the M&M set also had the movie that inspired the series) then that one I would get over the M&M set. You'll "miss out" possibly on the extras and the wonderful disc-scratching packaging. The M&M discs also had the option to turn off the laugh-track.

But, serious, as beautiful as it is I would avoid the M&M set as the DVD-wrecking packaging is a HUGE drawback and even if you DO manage to get one with unscratched discs you'll want to transfer them to aftermarket slimline cases to prevent damage in which case the packaging (itself is made of a very nice army green kahki/canvas and has nifty little Radar clipboard on the inside holding the booklet) just becomes a display piece.

Yeah that's what I did. I read all the reviews and decided I'd pass on the set, but I found it at such a good price I had to take the risk. All my disks are fine and I have removed them from the packaging, which is displayed (empty) on my DVD shelf.

The state of the other two sets the clerk and I looked through were just shocking. I mean I wouldn't have been surprised if she told me that set was used and rewrapped and the previous owner had poor disc-handling skills.

They looked awful. Brand new out of the package.

Do you know anything about the other DVD set I lnked to above? I can't find much info on it so I don't know how "legit" it is but from what I've seen pictures of the discs in it are in individual slimline plastic cases. -Obviously a far better storage medium than rough cardboard.

I'm not so concerned on specail features, I just want the entire series and preferably the option to turn off the laughtrack.

I remember hearing about another full-series set that was supposed to come out in better packaging, but honestly I've never seen it anywhere since.

Edited to add: I note from your link that's it's a Region 0 set, suggesting it's of dubious origin.

Well, I *have* seen this set in a local FYE.
