Luke's actions in "The Last Jedi" makes no sense.

The thing with Campbell's Hero's Journey structure and archetypes, it's not intended as a set of instructions for how to tell a story, it's a treatise on how these structures and archetypes permeate heros' tales all throughout known history.
It's not done this way because Campbell says so, it's because this is how mythological heroes tales go. The structures were already omnipresent.

Like it or not, stories all need a structure, otherwise it's just a rambling, unconnected series of "and then suddenlys".

As hard as I am on TLJ, I never thought for a moment that Johnson intended for that X-Wing to still be operational after decades underwater. That was
some Abrams WTF-ery that came later, and, given that Rey brings her own ship back to Planet Ireland, it was completely unnecessary, to boot.

Yup. Totally agree. I think we were meant to think he scuttled the X-Wing and couldn't leave. (he used one of the wings as the door to his hut.)

Of course, Abrams is a fucking idiot.

Weren't the First Order in complete Disarray trying to save the remnants of their fleet after the LightSpeed Ramming attack?

No. They regrouped from the attack and landed on the planet in Force. They certainly weren't in "disarray" when they had a dozen TIEs flying around and massive walkers and troops on the ground.

Rian Johnson could've left the X-Wing to be parked in a cave instead of Under Water.

Yes, he "could have" written infinite ways. But that wasn't the point at all. He "could have" written the X-Wing is actually a planet-eating transformer that could have wiped out the entire first order with one bite. But that would have been dumb.

Ergo, the X-Wing could've been more useful.

That misses the entire point. It wasn't about an X-Wing.

I always assumed that if Luke jumped into a ship and headed to the salt planet, he wouldn't have made it in time.

Anyone here read the leaked Colin Trevorrow Ep9 story? I honestly thing that would have been better than what we got. It still would have been terrible, but at least it sounded fun.

Nah, because it makes the mistake of treating the sequel characters seriously. Rise of Skywalker is thoroughly mediocre, but it's at least somewhat entertaining in being a self-loathing train wreck; it honestly seems to spoof itself at times. The leaked story outline suggests no such enjoyment, and would doubtless have been much more boring.

I think I read a summery somewhere, and honestly while it sounded like a more logical follow-up to TLJ than tRoS was, it didn't exactly blow my hair back either. Very bland, almost paint-by-numbers feel to it. Still, even with the best script in the world I'm not convinced it would have been substantially better than what we got.

While I haven't seen his full filmography, I've seen enough of Colin Trevorrow's work to know that he's really not a very good director, and has *terrible* storytelling instincts. On top of all that, word from the Jurassic sets is that that guy was very much NOT a team player, which is simply incompatible with how LF operates.

JJA for all his lack of originality and over dependence on that "mystery box" nonsense, is at least talented when it comes to knowing where to point the camera and how to get good performances from his actors.

Personally I would have preferred they just delayed the movie a year or two until they could get all their ducks in a row, maybe gotten Johnson or Edwards to come back as both of those two clearly knew how to play ball and seemed to have a much firmer grasp of the franchise's underpinnings. Alas.

I read most of it. It's....okay. It's not great. It has a few really interesting ideas, though, and actually builds on what came before instead of kicking over the sandcastle like a petulant child.

It certainly would have been vastly superior to the inexcusable shit pile that we wound up getting.
