Lt. Joe Carey

Wouldn't Libby be jealous too, knowing Harry had feelings for another woman? I think that would be the conflict, right? That would make Libby the "booby prize", as in I can't have Lyndsey so I'll settle with for you.
Oh, I don't think so. It happens to people pretty commonly that they have love for more than one person; it's not something a person can help, and it's not necessarily denigrating. It's what a person does about it that counts. Harry and Libby weren't married, either.

Trust me, I'm aware it happens. It's happened to me more times than I'd like to recall, honestly. I'm just saying it could cause conflict and jealousy because Harry is basically stringing Libby along.............or at least it does by the discription given.

See what I'm saying?;)

"Ashes to Ashes" was one of my absolute favorite episodes. I really wish they had some foresight with the characterization and not just filmed it with a new character.

The crucial part is what a person does with their feelings, and I never got that Harry was stringing Libby along.

Ok, fair enough.

BTW, I've been reading some of your other posts, you're very funny.

My high school yearbook description went, "...radiant in pink and slightly sarcastic..." Quite the endictment! Right there in crimson and gold for posterity to see -- all those people who peruse yearbooks for reading material. Thirty eight years later, I'm still grateful to the gentle editor who included an ameliorating adverb.

It was a senseless death that I think could have been made less so if more than an episode had been spent on him and it.
Yes, like that hispanic lieutenant from O'Brien's engineering team in DS9 who's in a handful of episodes and then dies dramatically during a whole episode, sort of in Sisko's arms. I was sorry to see him go. Especially as his death could have been avoided had Sisko and the vorta woman communicated a little. Good enough story.
By the way, that set a precedent. They couldn't do the same thing with Voyager's secondary engineering character. Although that would have been young Vorik.

Joe's death is not about Joe Carey; like funerals, the memorial is for the living. This subplot is all about the epilogue where Chakotay and Janeway remember him. We get to see how two main characters respond to the loss.

The inclusion of Joe's "Voyager in a bottle" project (perhaps a nod to a similar project in STNG) gives Janeway the chance to point out something about the project that is symbolic. She notes that Joe only had one nacelle left to attach to finish the project, which is symbolic of their progress in the journey home. They were so close to coming home and out of harm's way that his death was doubly sad for them.

Lt Carey was also seen in "Relativity" when Capt Braxton keeps on sending Seven to stop the person (him) from destroying Voyager. When Seven was on Voyager while it was still being built at the Utopia Plantia shipyards, he attempted to start a conversation with her...
