Lower Decks renewed for season 3

Have you watched the actual episode or are you just looking up jokes from the very beginning? The storyline with the ExoComp in that very episode wasn't bad at all, just saying. Or using the freaking Pakled as the big baddies. Not to mention having one of the main cast die in a show supposedly aimed to kids.

I watched all ten over two days on Amazon Prime, but there is nothing innovative about breaking with your established format in order to shoehorn a show into well-trodden paths towards ticking the “funny” box. As far as galactic history is concerned, did renewed Landru worship happen or not? One could find humor in any number of Bermanverse tropes without actually doing anything the Bermanverse wouldn’t have, as illustrated in that art supply sale. It just takes a bit of irreverence mixed in with the day-to-day. People in standard situations can be witty and funny if they’re written that way.

As I said, it works for me, and better than any Trek series of this millennium. YMMV.

why not?

But you’re grading Star Trek on a curve instead of putting it in the context of everything else that’s out there. I see it all the time in that the average rating is 8/10 or something instead of a 2 or a 3.

Renewed Landru worship is questionable because it can also be interpreted as a bit of cartoon silliness as opposed to failure of a hundred-year old social development program. If on the other hand it was closed after a few decades, is Mariner even authorized to say “Stop praying to a computer!”?

Well, I have zero interest in watching almost anything else out there, so I can’t really compare. In recent years I’ve seen the Orville and the Star Wars stuff, that’s it for modern TV for me. That said, as a Trek series I think it works very well and certainly makes me happy.

I really don’t see the problem: I don’t remember if Kirk mentions it, but it would be logical if the federation had left a team to help rebuild a sane society, but also that such team would have been removed once things were back on track a few years or decade later. Since this is a century later I don’t find implausible that things went wrong and some of them went back worshipping Landru.

But what’s Starfleet’s role in all that? Landru worship is still officially outlawed, so Starfleet officers can interfere at will? Or am I taking this too seriously?

The reason Kirk interfered (apart from the fact that two of his crewmen were incorporated) was that the society was not a living one, protected by the first directive, but a stale, dead one with no change or evolution happening in thousands of years.

One might argue with his logic, but if starfleet has upheld it as valid it makes sense for them to prevent the planet to be taken over by what might as well being alien technology, something so removed by the current societal and technological level of the planet and that has already shown its aim to be freezing the planet in a mid 20th century-like society with no progress, evolution or free will whatsoever.

But is it succeeding?
Do you really think they would have renewed it for a third season four months before the second even premiered if the show wasn't a success?
Renewed Landru worship is questionable
Landru worship returning is just a reflection of the fact that people can make some very stupid decisions when it comes to determining their leadership. For real world precedents, look at the country that back in 2016 elected a failed businessman and reality TV star to be their president. If anything, worshipping Landru seems very sane in comparison.

and don’t forget it could still happen again...

It isn’t.
Akiva when asked said he couldn’t say, at least for Picard.
I never heard that rumour for Discovery, only Picard.
i clearly remember discussions on these forums on how both discovery and Picard were now filming two seasons back to back and on how it seemed a good idea with an actor of patrick’s age. Might have been based on what turned out to be rumors, though.
