Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

I didn't know Alice Wetterlund had a guest voice role in Lower Decks. Considering I liked her in Resident Alien, that was a pleasant surprise.

This little arc with the Tendi Sisters was pretty great.
~ That's the House Tendi Prime and the Mistress of the Winter Constellations to you!

I really do love how wholesome Lower Decks is. It's zaney and sometimes stupid, but when you get to an episode like "Caves", it can be really wholesome. I've been thinking there aren't a lot of shows that show great and strong friendships very much. I feel like we live in an era where everything has to be relationship based (Shipper), and seeing Lower Decks and how much the 4 are just really good friends, it's just nice. I'm thinking season 4 might be my favorite season of the show, but I do wish they had revealed Nick sooner. The Ship stealing the other ships got kind of repetitive when you are watching on a binge.

I'm almost done with my rewatch (Just the final two episodes) and while I wish the series had continued, I kind of have a love hate relationship with Season 5. It kind of felt like they were bringing out stories you would see in Season 1 (More on the zany end) rather than Seasons 3 and 4. I did like the arc with D'Vana and D'Erika but I do wish more was done with the Fissures and they had done more of an arc to round out the season. Also, Boimler growing the beard was more distracting than funny. I still love the series, but maybe they ended it at the right time. It would have been nice to see where the series would go had they gotten more seasons, and I wonder if the fact that it was the final season impacted Season 5 a bit.

I finished my rewatch of Lower Decks last night. I still can't believe they were able to convince Blalock to come back for a voice acting role. Considering how quiet she has been over the years and wanting to leave Star Trek behind, that was quite a get.

I think "The New Next Generation" featured everything I do love about Lower Decks: Cheering for the underdog (Not just the lower deckers, but the California Class as a whole), Carol and Beckett finally trusting each other and getting closer than they were to start the series, and just the overall wholesomeness and family feel of the series. It's not my favorite of the Trek finales mainly because I thought the Klingon stuff got in the way, but it sent Lower Decks out in a way that was appropriate for the series. Like I felt when I started this rewatch, I do miss this series a lot, more than any of the live action new series.

As has almost become a habit, I’ve checked in with how the Art of Star Trek: Lower Decks book was doing on Amazon, and what do you know, they actually added a handful of new and revised preview pages, now giving some glimpses into the design process of the Cerritos, her bridge and some of the assets created for the pilot, complete with interesting anecdotes from the designers. That’s more like it! Can’t wait for the final book coming out! :)

I seriously can't believe it will have been a year and a half since I pre-ordered that art book... if it actually makes its current release date.

Luckily, I was talking with Mike McMahan on Bluesky this morning, and they’re already working on converting & preserving the assets. It’s just a matter of getting the resources together for the effort.
