Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Hmmm..... Is Section 31 behind all the fissures appearing?

At this point it’s hard for me to care, seeing as the whole fissure thing was the thinnest of thin plot threads this season. The Nick Locarno ship-stealing thing worked much better. And that there’s only two episodes left before the show ends on a pretty lackluster note.

I stand by my statement I made many months ago that LDS should have ended after season 4.

Well, we don't know how it's going to end yet. One of Enterprise's best seasons had the worst finale, one of TNG's weaker seasons had the best finale. Perhaps the next two episodes (20% of the season) will be good enough to make season 5 worth it.

Just think how different season 1 would have been perceived if it didn't close out with three strong episodes in a row. If 509 and 510 are both great, that would then put season 5 as a 50/50 season in my book, and better than season 4.

Interesting! Isn’t that a Defiant style engine room in the Mariner image?

Doesn't quite fit

Huh! Good catch. The deflector is set really far back. I then thought maybe a Saber, but the outline doesn’t quite fit either. I guess it’s a new compact design that possesses similar economy-of-space rooms as Defiant.

It’s the pale blue triangle sitting on the left of the long gray box at the bottom.

Definitely has a different interior than the original Defiant.
I don't think that's a deflector, because it would-be facing the wrong way if it was.
Might be a bussard/ramscoop as it's right in front of the warp nacelle.

Look at NCC-73515's image above. I think it's a defiant, or defiant variant based off the outline.

Maybe it's something new and "Defiant-like?" Aren't we due a new ship? Every previous season has given us at least a few new ship designs. Have we had any this season?

It's facing the wrong way only if it is a Defiant MSD. This is the fuzzy blob in question:

Now, assuming that the ship being shown in the MSD is oriented left-to-right (as many official MSD's are), here we have the original Enterprise-D MSD:
enterprise_d_msd_by_suricatafx_dc4ry5b-pre.jpg

This shows a near-identical triangular object (much more clearly), oriented in exactly the same direction, facing left-to-right. Unfortunately, the bussards are obscured, so here's the Enterprise-E's MSD to show the difference:
star_trek_enterprise_e_msd_by_suricatafx_dc4rw7y-fullview.jpg

Here we have another similarly-shaped triangular object representing the deflector (also facing left-to-right) and the bussards are depicted as blueish-white cylinders with red/orange "lightbulbls" (for want of a better word) attached. I've seen this object representing bussards many times.

NOW!

Here is one exception that throws a monkey-wrench into the works. I've found two different versions of the Cerritos MSD. This one:
cerritos-animated-lcars-msd-with-red-alert-map-by-mewho-v0-0tnyssady0w91-3218792279.png
Shows the same kind of objects that we see in all the others for the nav deflector and bussards, but this one:
cerritos-msd.jpg
Is the only one I've found that uses a triangular object for a bussard, with the deflector obscured. Since this is ostensibly from LDS, it could be argued that it's a bussard on this one:
blob.png
But the preponderance of evidence says it is a nav deflector. And all the evidence says the MSD is oriented left-to-right, irrespective of what the blob may be. If that's the case, then the Defiant outline cannot be shoe-horned into that MSD at that orientation, which is why I originally suspected a Sabre, as the 2H does sit low and amidships like that, where the deflector is located, and that box to the right of it could be the un-obscured portion of the warp coil but, in all likelihood, probably not a Sabre, either (or a "Sabrerunner"). Most likely a new ship design.

Where's Jörg Hillebrand when you need him?!? :wah:

Alright, I think I know what this new ship might be. Placing in spoiler code just in case.
In the new S31 trailer, there's a dark-colored ship docked at the Baraam station which I believe belongs to Phillipa Georgiou. The positioning of the staggered box-shaped objects in the outline of the MSD seems to fit with this ship's overall look with the carapace superstructures attached to the hull. It somewhat resembles a distinctly Defiant-like "armored turtle" design without the front nose piece. Since S31 seems to take place in the early 24th century "lost era", with the existence of a young, pre-"Yesterday's Enterprise" Rachel Garrett in the cast (that's where the Guardian of Forever dropped Georgiou off from DSC), this may be a direct precursor to the Defiant's design in the late-24th, given to the shipbuilders by S31 to fight the Borg.

Looks like a possible match, anyways...

Here's a close-up of the front of the exterior bridge area. Definitely a tight, compact design. Difficult to read overall details:

This shows two nav deflectors which appear to be inline with the ship’s bussards and warp coils, which also syncs with the MSD.
