Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Yeeeeeah. I'm finding this a little bit hard to believe. I've been posting on bulletin boards for 25 years. And I've never seen anyone say that. And if what you think about "Threshold" is disingenuous, then so is your hyperbolic statement about Lower Decks. Try again.

I think "Threshold" was fine until the lizard part. Not great, not terrible. If some folks think there's nothing wrong with warp 10 turning one into a salamander (or a virus turning crew members into pre-historic creatures in "Genesis") then Lower Decks should be a breeze to handle.

“Threshold” has some fine squirm-inducing body horror and I believe there's a genuinely good concept buried in all the silliness, but ultimately it fails to tell a coherent story. Maybe if it had embraced its campy aspects even more it might not be remembered all that badly. The wife and I had a good time watching it a couple of weeks ago. After a couple of beers it's the funniest episode of the whole show. ;)

You're joking, right? Are you absolutely blind to the obvious group bully session that went on? Some "moderator"!

Garth made a simple substitution joke, something I've seen him and others do countless times on this forum (I think I may have done it a time or two). I doubt it was directed at you, more just his personal preference towards nuNuTrek like Lower Decks.

Then you called him a dick.

Going back, I don't see any bullying towards you, at least from Lord Garth, although there are definite defenders of the show at this point. I would say, in the future, just post your opinion and move on. You don't have to refute others on matters of personal taste, even if they attempt to engage you in a refutation.

What you did was an unnecessary escalation and personal attack, and was called out on it.

Let's not discuss this here. @CPT Baldwin, if you feel the warning was unjustified contact either @KennyB or me via PM, just like it said in his post. This isn't the place for this discussion.

That was nowhere near a personal attack. A single word does not constitute an attack. Open your damn eyes.

There are several ways to gauge awfulness of entertainment, but the most primary is, how hard is it to actually sit through the program and finish it. From this perspective, Threshold is not the worst Voyager episode, something like TWISTED would be- the one wherein the layout of the ship keeps changing ("Wait, this corridor is supposed to lead to the pattern enhancer repair room, but now I've ended up in the brig!")

Threshold would be somewhat akin to Spock's Brain- ridiculous, but far from the hardest to sit through- so by this metric, among the worst Trek eps would be, let's see, THAT WHICH SURVIVES, TWISTED, TERRA NOVA.

My nomination for worst episode of Alex Trek would be the one where they have to bring the doctor back from the dead by visiting the mushroom kingdom and reciting the magical incantation or whatever it is that happens in that one, don't think I'll be rewatching.

And that's worse than the techobabble and Vulcan mumbo jumbo in The Search For Spock? Or Nomad doing a crash course on human physiology to bring Scotty back from the dead? Good thing Scotty's hyperencephalogram was up to date.
