Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

I understood that to mean they were able to give them bigger and more pronounced body types. I mean, look at the Bajoran Lt. Shaxs and how cartoonishly bulky and big they are drawing him compared to the other humanoid characters. I suspect that‘s similar to how Klingons will appear.
these guys look like they are very aware of ST canon and fandom so I dont think we need to worry about wild re-interpretations of anything. So no purple bald double 'ahem' equiped klingons

The DSC Klingons are canon, so ignoring them would be violating canon, no matter if people dislike them.

I really like that bit from McMahan: “But I gotta say, if anyone wants Mariner to show up on their live-action Star Treks, you’ve got to have Tawny.”

If it's true that McMahan has modeled Mariner the character after Newsome the actress then it only makes sense that she would portray her live action counterpart. Judging from that brief appearance in the Comic-Con@Home livestream Tawny Newsome seemed like a genuinely nice person. So yeah, seeing her appear on Picard or a Short Trek would be awesome.

All the main cast look like their animated counterparts. Even Fred Tatasciore looks like Shaxs. I think this was on purpose. Anyone can be seen in live-action at some point.

But all the different klingon looks are canon so you have to pick 1 and judging by the artwork of this show all those kind of decisions will swing towards TNG

Absolutely. But the Discovery Klingons like the TOS Klingons that preceded and succeeded them, seem to be part of the Klingon legacy that they "don't talk about with outsiders". So, it won't bother me if they never bring it up.

- They're really quite amusing! I watched with a smile growing ever larger on my face :D Great theme tune, too! I can't wait to see Lower Decks whenever it comes to the UK.
The trailer is very funny, too.

Wil Wheaton is hosting a Ready Room premiere special right now with Mike McMahan and Barry Kelly from animation studio Titmouse.

They had an interesting conversation about the design of the Cerritos' interior and how the walls and floor carpets are an extension of the LCARS designs. What's also cool is that they are matching the sounds of white noise from The Next Generation for each room like the bridge and the corridor. Nice touch!

EDIT: They are thinking about finally showing cetacean ops in season two.

YES!!!
It'd be especially awesome if they work in the implication on TNG that people go to cetacean ops just to gawk at the dolphins and aquatic aliens who are in fact officers and crew just trying to do their jobs.

A joke I've always wanted, have two humans go to cetacean ops on their date. They talk lovey-dovey nonsense the entire time they're there staring at the aquatics just like they're at an aquarium or something, then just as they're about to kiss, have a pissed off dolphin start yelling at them that this is a designated workplace, and not a mating ground for humans. "How would you like it if me and my mate showed up in the engine room and started making hot, sweet dolphin love on the deck right in front of the warp core?"

It would be cool if they ever did a live action version of Lower Decks as a Short Trek episode. But I suspect it will cost too much. They would have to build some sets and create CG model of the space ship. But the voice actors can probably play their characters, except for the one doing Rutheford that looks nothing like him.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Wesley or maybe Will as an alien at some stage in the show
