Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

No such thing

Yes there is.

To me, Lower Decks isn't canon. That's cool and all if it is for everyone else. You do you. But in my own mind, it isn't. You can call me a fool or an idiot or whatever, that's fine. :)

On who controls canon?
Hint: It's not the fans.

On whether or not things are personally canon to me and no one else. Again, if everyone else considers Lower Decks canon except me, that's fine. I don't have anything against that. And if people want to make fun of me for having this belief, that's fine too. It's all good.

Just pointing pointing out that "personal canon" is an oxymoron. What you like may be personal, but it can't be called a "canon".

I disagree.
To take a page from actual history, lots of people (myself included), enjoy the stories found in the Dead Sea Scrolls and find value in them. They are just as old, if not older, than many of the stories found in the Old Testament of the Bible. Nonetheless, they are considered apocryphal, not canon, despite what we may think. I don’t agree with it, but the Council of Nicaea (read, CBS for you in this context) made their decision and it is final. Thousands of years didn’t change it and wishing it otherwise by anyone will not make it happen. You can’t decanonize the Book of Ezekiel in your mind because you think it’s goofy and that it may have aliens in it, nor is it for you to decide otherwise. It just simply doesn’t work that way. You don’t own it.

 Well, there is that, good point.

However, considering how the Council of Nicaea was a part of the early Roman Catholic Church, circa 325 A.D., commissioned under Emperor Constantine, I suppose that those of the Eastern Orthodox persuasion would potentially hold a stronger claim to it than most. :D

I think their copyrights and trademarks have finally ran out!

More like the Jews regarding the Book of Ezekiel.
