Ummmnn...
Star Trek has almost always been about being out in space, exploring the "Unknown" ...

Seems to me that there's an extremely high risk of things 'going south' quite often, when one is purposefully looking for it.

Saw this pointed out, but Shaxs's rank is inconsistent, some scenes he has 3 pips, some scenes he only has 2. Sometimes it changes between shots in the same scene.

As far as I can tell, he's the only character to have that issue with keeping the pips straight. I wonder what was going on at the animation department lol.

Or maybe it's an intentional gag.

Speaking of rank, it’s interesting that, last week, Mariner was given a two-grade promotion from Ensign to full Lieutenant (two gold pips), skipping Lieutenant Junior Grade (one gold, one black). Perhaps that was where she was at her highest point before being busted back down and sent to Cerritos.

He’s a deep cover Changeling spy

people die all the time. no one lives forever. and everyone is defined by death. the death of loved ones and ones own mortality.
this is a non-issue

Death is the "undiscovered country" that Shakespeare was writing about. That was a pretty morbid title for the last TOS film, even if they reinterpreted it to mean the future state of peace with the Klingons.

Maybe Captain Freeman demotes him everytime he suggests detonating the Warp core.
And then decides to give it back a day later.

That is the nature of storytelling.

I mean, that even started with TWOK and Generations for each crew not getting a happily ever after for a bit. Picard lost two members of his family to a fire. Kirk discovers he has a son only for his son to be killed. Star Trek, for all its other positives, has tended to fall in to that storytelling trap that we can't even have a 100% positive ending.

More on point, I do agree that the Riker's dead child just overmuch. I guess I disagree that Discovery/Picard is the only place where no one gets a happy life. Pretty much saw that from TOS on.

As you say constantly, mileage will vary.

Of course people have sad things happen to them in TOS, TNG etc but they also had plenty of good things. I suspect the point that was being made about Discovery and Picard is that the balance is shifted so far towards the negative, where there's a lot of suffering, but very little joy.

That's why I'm enjoying Lower Decks, for the most part, it's optimistic, joyful and optimistic, the heart of Star Trek.

I too think it's pretty awesome. Attempted something similar with Mariner/Tawny Newsome a couple of days ago, but it didn't turn out as cool as that. Would be lovely if at some point the voice cast actually did a photoshoot in their uniforms.

I tried to work out a photoshop of Sliders-era O'Connell in a DS9 uniform, with ideas for similar shops with Dawnn Lewis in maybe early TNG and maybe, just maybe Tatasciore in a Bajoran Militia outfit.
