lost TOS episode!

Well...not really...

I started watching Star Trek well, along time ago. Back when TOS first came on the air I was 11 years old. And because of whatever was going on I actually missed an episode of Star Trek. And even when it went into sydication I still missed it...

It was around 1975 I think when I finally saw this 'lost' episode of Trek (at least my own personally lost episode) and what was it? Is There No Truth In Beauty. Not one of my favorites, but still, it was cool to actually be seeing it and saying "I've never seen this one before"..wow.....

Was there a particular episode of TOS that slipped through the cracks until you saw it later?

This might be slightly OT, but I think it applies:

I actually had a strange dream last night in which I found a "lost episode" intended to be a fourth season pilot. It was a three episode arc and featured one of the Cheron aliens putting on a bunch of makeup so as to look human, and then masquerading as a Starfleet officer. He and Kirk were having a battle of wits about something in the conference room...and then I woke up. It took me a few minutes to realize that it was all a dream, and when I did I was quite disappointed. The episode was quite good, too.

No, my experience was just the opposite. For a while there, whenever I happened to catch an episode of TOS in syndicated reruns, it was almost alway "The Cloud-minders." I really grew to loathe that episode.

(I'm relieved... I was afraid this thread was going to be another attempt to resurrect that hoax about the lost "Requiem for a Martian" episode of TOS.)

My "Lost Episode" was the first one I ever saw -- Space Seed. Let me explain...

...Until I saw my first episode of Star Trek, I had never even HEARD of Star Trek. I still remember quite clearly: It was 1972 or 1973 was about 7 years old and I was looking for something on TV when I came across the scene in which the landing party was beaming onto the Botany Bay for the first time (I had missed the cold opening/teaser and the opening credits). The fact that those people had just materialized out of thin air caught my attention -- and has held my attention ever since then.

I have on VHS a copy of the second pilot...with a different theme and some different cuts.

Just saying, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" didn't always look the way you've seen it time and time again.

No but I was caught by moments on the DVD's that I had forgotten even existed... the most prominent off the top of my head is when Uhura complained about saying hailing frequencies all the time. As soon as I saw it, I remembered it. And I also remembered that I had forgotten it! But the bright side is, that for years upon years, that moment was happily replaced by moments of sheer knowledge building. If that moment hadn't been edited, I'd have never known that Madge likes Palm Olive, or that Ring Around The Collar was really an animated monster that could ruin my relationships and career advancement. I'd have never known what scrubbing bubbles looked like! Or what that guy was doing in the dinghy in my toilet. I mean, I've obviously read enough that Nichelle was tired of the lines over the years, but this (sadly lost to later generations) knowledge has to be priceless! Think of it's worth! What would you pay for this kind of education over Uhura's whining? No wait! I'll also throw in a set of Ginsu Knives! Now what you pay for it? No, wait! I'll also throw in ... *splat* Um, my wife says I have to turn off the computer now and take my medicines. Goodnight Gracie. (read: how can anybody watch television anymore? From 32 episodes of Vic Morrow's Combat per season at 51:00'ish minutes an episode to what now? ..20 episodes at 43:00'ish minutes? Do the math for a successful series and you'll see a ripoff of seasonal proportions! AND, you don't even get the free Ginsu Knives anymore!)

Acutally, that is a better lost episode than mine...I actually like OMEGA GLORY..do you remember how you felt seeing it after all that time? Wasn't it like finding a washed twenty dollar bill in your back pocket???

Heh...the "E Plebnista" is a strong memory...the score at that point helped a lot, but yeah. I liked it growing up.

I never saw The Return Of The Archons until a friend lent me the video in the 80s. I'd previously only read the story in one of the James Blish books. I hadn't liked it when I read the book and seeing the actual show didn't make me like it any more.

I've never missed one original airing of any episode of any Trek, of all five series, not one. Been there from day one, 09.08.66.

TOS I know inside out and I am enjoying the R-esp(s). TNG I'm pretty well-versed in too as far as repeats. DS9 fair on repeats, and VOY and ENT, I can watch without remembering every lil' detail.

That's as close as I can get to the feeling of watching "fresh Trek."

Good Q eh. I used to find "lost" eps. of B5 and still do now and again, but never Trek eh.

Of course, I only saw it in syndication, but Indianapolis, for years, only seemed to play the first two seasons (aside from Enterprise Incident). I didn't even see episodes like Tholian Web or Cloud Minders until cable took over.

Probably "The Cage" which I didn't see on TV (because it was never shown). It wasn't until I bought it on video that I got to see it all.

I wouldn't mind if someone either summed up, or pointed to a summary, of what the heck the hoax was about. Most of the articles on it were scrubbed, leaving very little info on what it was supposed to be.

Yes, it was only about a year ago that I saw "Dagger of the Mind" for the first time. This was despite reading about Helen Noel on the boards for so long and the "plane-arium" episode of South Park
