Above Average.

Way better than last week.

Isn't Jack the chosen one???

Here's my speculation: Smokey isn't planning on escaping with Sawyer, he's grooming him as a replacement. (A "substitute", if you will.) The rules say he can't leave without someone taking his place, just as one of the other candidates will be replacing Jacob.

How well this will work out remains to be seen, since it involves Smokey out-conning a con man.

oh oh...a Sawyer and Jack smackdown with Saywer as the nuMiB and Jack as the nuJacob

Which could mean everyone either dies or gets off the island except them.

Above average. It was better than last week's of course, but it was just sort of there until the cave scene. For some reason seeing the numbers next to the names really got me excited.

That works. If that's how it plays out then I can see Jack and Sawyer putting an end to whatever game or cycle has been playing out.

Conning the out-conning con man.

has anyone considered that antilocke could have at some time absorbed a little of locke's father who died on the island.
the way it is acting reminds me of his father and especally how it refered to locke.
it may also explain why it is going after sawyer.
yeah i know the overall persona has been there a long time but.,,

Anyone else wondering how alternate version of Locke got paralyzed? It seems that in this version his father is a good guy and Locke is on good terms with him. So that means in this alternate timeline Locke's father didn't push him out the window.

Trying to get the numbers/names right. is this right so far?

4 - Locke (Dead)
8- Hurley
15- Sawyer (Working with the MIB)
16- Sayid (Deadish / infected)
23 - Jack
42- Sun or Jin

So right now, the next Jacob will be Hurley, but we all know that ain't going to happen. Since Sawyer want's nothing to do with it, and Sayid is probably out of the running. That Leaves jack, then sun or Jin.

Obviously Jack is going to end up being the next Jacob. I just hope Hurley doesn't die.

Of course Jacob also touched Kate, and it is only listing last names up on the wall, so if kate married jack, Sawyer, Sayid of Hurley her last name could be Shepard, Ford, Rayes, or Jurahl... So she might still be in the running. :P

Questions posed:

-Who is the boy that Locke and Sawyer see?
-How does Ilana know so much about Jacob and Smokey and the rules governing Smokey?
-What is the purpose of the cave?
-What is the purpose of the list in the cave?
-What caused Locke to be paralyzed, yet still on somewhat good terms with his dad?
-Why was Smokey brought to the island, and what made him into the monster?
-What is Smokey recruiting for?
-Why are people who were on the island yet not on the same flight still encountering each other so much in the flash sideways?

Questions answered (sort of):

-Maybe that the numbers are associated with people? That still doesn't explain their significance.
-Smokey used to be a person, or so he says, but is this really saying much, or just expanding upon how he already said he wants to go home?

I don't see this as being the "time for answers." I still enjoyed the episode quite a bit, but I find their ads to be too misleading. I wouldn't count on figuring anything substantial out until the finale, and that every episode up until then will pose more questions than it answers.

If Jacob is looking for a replacement and Smokie is looking for a replacement.

maybe they were both replacements a long time ago? maybe someone tricked them into taking over the good/evil (black/white) roles on the island?

What happens if the MIB gets Kate to take over his role, and Jack takes over Jacob's role? Could they end up being the two skeletons in the cave? One with a black stone, one with a white stone?

Also, if Jacob did manipulate/lead the Losties to the Island in the original timeline, maybe this alternate timeline ("flash sideways") is showing us a reality where Jacob never interfered in the Losties lives?

It was going to get an "Excellent" no matter what after that awesome scene from the monster's point of view at the beginning.

Awesome episode, interesting how Ben made it as a European studies teacher in the alt timeline and they both love Hot Earl Grey tea and we all know who drinks that!

What are the chances of all these people living in LA though. Even Ethan!

Is there still a chance the plot will double-back on itself and we find out Jacob is the bad guy? Or has the ship sailed on that?

Maybe they can both be bad guys.

That would be cool a JACK/SAWYER face off that was hinted at all the way back in season 1. We still lack the answer why because there must be a reason why there is Jacob and why there is a smokey monster..Do hes have a real name ?

I stay rooted to the Jack camp for the win due to not being so evil  However I don't see Jack becoming the nu Jacob because its too obvious and I remain convnced Jack will die before the show ends. I wished proper Locke would of come back to life and we have Locke/Sawyer.
