Spoilers Lord of the Rings TV series

Cool picture. Anybody have any idead what city that might be?
I guess you didn't read the article. :p

Speculation from the comments (and then added into the article itself shortly after its publication):

“This is Tirion, the city of the Noldor in the Undying Lands, and the picture is set in the First Age, as the Two Trees are clearly shining in the background.”

My guess is that we'll get a prelude narration explaining the backstory behind the Years of the Trees, the Noldor and the Edain through the First Age setting up the main story in the Second Age, ala the War of the Last Alliance sequence in LOTR. I wonder if that's Galadriel in the preview image.

That’s the first age isn’t it? I don’t think they are allowed to cover anything from there
Before the First Age, actually. The First Age didn't start until the Sun and the Moon first rose in the sky.

And I'm pretty sure the Tolkien Estate are working with Amazon on this show, so they're not limited to just what's in the text of LOTR and The Hobbit like New Line/Warner Bros. were with their movies.

ETA: I could be wrong and the First Age also technically includes everything from the beginning of the world to the destruction of the Trees. But all of that together is a long, long time. I always thought the numbered ages referred specifically to those that took place under the Sun.

I didn't see the comment, and when I read it said they hadn't heard anything about what the picture showed. I just thought people here might be moe willing to guess than IGN's writer was.

Well Tolkien never really said "when" Legolas was born... We just know his Father is Thranduil and Thranduil was alive in the First Age...
:shrug::whistle:

Also, Thranduil’s father was the Elven lord Oropher - who led an subsidiary army of elves in the Battle of the Last Alliance (right at the end of the second age) and from what I recall, Oropher advanced them too early into the fray, ignoring Gil-galad’s orders, and subsequently got himself killed - hence, his son Thranduil took up his fathers mantle after the battle.

So it stands to reason that Legolas could appear, Albeit quite young (for an elf that is).

Oh noes - says me here in New Zealand…!

Not the end of the proverbially world, but still somewhat disappointing, IMHO. (Then again, I am biased)

They said on the news tonight it had injected 600 million into the economy and future seasons would have been as lucrative - not exactly chump change for our little corner of the world.

Looks like I missed yet another opportunity to be a background extra in a LOTR production - I fit the bill perfectly for an Uruk hai back in the day, but never bothered to go to the casting down the road. :lol:
