Lorca: Fans Will Have To Adjust

I don't know. Wasn't one of the reasons that "Enterprise" got cancelled was because nobody was watching and people had gotten tired of Trek? Trek fans and sci-fi fans today have what they didn't have much of back when TOS and TNG got started and that is options. Frankly I think most shows today live off it's cult audience since tv has so many different places to show quality tv. If you don't have a loyal following or one of the lucky ones to make a mark on a bigger scale like "Walking Dead" or "Game of Thrones" then aren't you doomed for failure because who really channels surfs anymore and tries something just because it looks interesting? Not to mention but who else other than old school fans will be willing to pay CBS All Access for what amounts to one tv show, especially when they know they can get it later on Netflix. Seems to me the best bet is to hope old school fans and new fans made from the Kelvin movies will watch and hope word of mouth gets newer fans to check in later once they start hearing good things.

The pretentiousness of the so-called "die-hards" is why you get comments like this from Chris Pine, Jason Isaacs and whoever else. Quit thinking your "canon" is going to be enshrined and worshipped in each and every series/incarnation and you'll be that much better off (this is one reason why you find different websites, blogs, books and other forms of media out there catering to different forms of Trek)

teH Canon is done.

They're changing things. Again.

He shouldn't be worrying or gloating about invested people/fans. I wonder if his arrogance comes from the fact that he is playing the part of Captain of the flagship but is a second string character? He's probably trying to create a little controversy so people will notice him, lol.

He is the one being ragged on, his show is the one the die hards are hurling hate at, so yeah he damned well should have a side.

Wow, that was a really assholish thing to say. He was one of the only things I was hopeful about in the show, too. Well, screw him. I have absolutely no respect left for him, and I always thought he was a very solid actor before this and I enjoyed him in most things I saw him. I guess the show is down to the (exterior) Starfleet ship designs and possibly the lead when it comes to things I don't hate about Discovery.
You don't have to see something to hate it, especially with media. But, to be fair, I sure as hell "saw" those tumorous abominations they're calling klingons. I also saw the trailers and everything else they've shown. So, I hate a lot of things, all based on what they've shown and talked about.

As for he's talking about, I may see the show but so what? People hate watch things all the time. My watching won't support the show, and its Star Trek. The fact that they've made a version of Trek worse then the 09 movie (as much as I love Beyond, I'll always hate ST09) or literally anything the TV show ever did makes it a must watch just for people like me who have a lot of morbid curiosity. He's shitting on fans of a show because they don't like the name being slapped on some crap sci fi show that is no more Star Trek then it is Guardians of the Galaxy or Doctor Who. His opinion might piss me off, but its also the meaningless opinion of a completely clueless person.
Sounds pretty clued-in to me, since you just embodied everything he just said in two posts. Can't we have just a smidgen of introspection and a bit of a sense of humor about ourselves? What is he saying that's even that bad? That you'll get carried away over certain things but still watch the show anyway? So what? Lighten up.

It just comes off as arrogant, an insult to fans and an assumption that his show is going to be any good in the first place and people have no right to complain about things. Anyway, I'm done with it. I'm not going to actively avoid his stuff, but he's no longer an actor that I'm interested in seeing on shows or in movies. In this show he's far from the worst thing (he's not even the actor I dislike the most on Discovery, since Rainn Wilson is on the show), but he's now another element I actively dislike and another reason to hate the show overall. I don't have much more to say about him, really.

It only sounds that way, because for the past oh.......8 years or so (since ST IX), a vocal minority of fans have been pissing and moaning non stop. In hindsight, if Isaacs and other stars were smart, they'd ignore these protestations altogether and concentrate on telling their stories.

Sounds like you need to step away from the television for a little while if a fictional show makes you that angry. There are far better things to be angry about than that.

That is not what he said at all.

I suppose its more accurate to say that he was saying that their complaints don't matter, because they'll still watch. That's kind of a funny thing to say because Enterprise certainly proved that Star Trek won't keep getting good ratings purely from fans who will "always watch" regardless of quality, and I can't imagine Discovery, regardless of how much mass appeal it may or may not get, will do very well telling fans that it doesn't matter what they think of the show.

It read to me that he will look forward to the reaction.

Got to be better than apathy.. then disinterest.. no one wants crickets.

People who are indifferent about a show just stop watching. People who are outraged about it and constantly have to tell everyone how outraged they are about it will continue watching so they can be informed about what outrages them.
