Lorca: Fans Will Have To Adjust

Wow, that was a really assholish thing to say. He was one of the only things I was hopeful about in the show, too. Well, screw him. I have absolutely no respect left for him, and I always thought he was a very solid actor before this and I enjoyed him in most things I saw him. I guess the show is down to the (exterior) Starfleet ship designs and possibly the lead when it comes to things I don't hate about Discovery.

You don't have to see something to hate it, especially with media. But, to be fair, I sure as hell "saw" those tumorous abominations they're calling klingons. I also saw the trailers and everything else they've shown. So, I hate a lot of things, all based on what they've shown and talked about.

As for he's talking about, I may see the show but so what? People hate watch things all the time. My watching won't support the show, and its Star Trek. The fact that they've made a version of Trek worse then the 09 movie (as much as I love Beyond, I'll always hate ST09) or literally anything the TV show ever did makes it a must watch just for people like me who have a lot of morbid curiosity. He's shitting on fans of a show because they don't like the name being slapped on some crap sci fi show that is no more Star Trek then it is Guardians of the Galaxy or Doctor Who. His opinion might piss me off, but its also the meaningless opinion of a completely clueless person.

Amazing, it's almost like you set out to parody yourself!

As for Isaacs, what a guy.

I got a chuckle out of his comments, but really I expect it to be pretty much 1987 all over again. There will be some fans up in arms because of how different it is, and it's not Star Trek, and so on. And after some time passes and we look back on it, we'll think it really wasn't as different as we thought it was.

I've said this before, but I think from a dramatic storytelling perspective, TOS holds up much better to time than does TNG.

IMHO, I find that even VOY is more watchable today than TNG, I think because with Voyager and its crew being a ship that was basically a guest in the Delta Quadrant, the writers and showrunners probably realized that the crew didn't always have the right to be preachy to the races who called the Delta Quadrant home.

The whole "our society has evolved past that" mantra that we heard over and over again on TNG got a little old, and the way that the TNG characters used themselves as the moral standard when sizing up a race they just met was all just a little too thick, oozing with self-righteousness. I think that preachiness and self-righteousness is a product of its time (the late 1980s and early 1990s).

So much this.

He's probably right though, people will watch (or not) no matter what he says. You get an inkling that he thinks he's above it all.

It's an interesting admission that he is happy with the concept that it doesn't have to be good or bad, it just has to be a talking point. Not so sure that speaks well for the product.

I really don't care much about canon. Actually when it was first announced that there would be a new series, I really was hoping for a reboot which changes the races outside the Federation. I just wanted no Romulans, Borg and especially no Klingons anymore. They were done to death. I really wanted them to be able to explore new things in the galaxy, meet new people, nice and bad ones.

If I won't like Discovery, it really won't be because they are breaking canon all the time. My main concern is that DIS will be too dark and gritty for my taste. But we will see. Maybe it is still good. I am a big enough Star Trek fan that I will watch it, if it is only ok. If it is really horrible, I likely will give it up sooner or later though.

I get him and I agree with him. At this point it is clear to me you are never gonna please the hard core guys. They want something designed to fail. And they will watch just so they can run online and trash talk it.
He shouldn't be worrying or gloating about invested people/fans. I wonder if his arrogance comes from the fact that he is playing the part of Captain of the flagship but is a second string character? He's probably trying to create a little controversy so people will notice him, lol.

I'm pretty sure Lorca's going to be dead by like the fifth episode, so I doubt Isaacs is worried about being noticed.

"I know they’re all going to watch anyway."

Remember when Michael B. Jordan said that about Fant4stic...and then no one went to see it? Ha, good times. :D

He'll be the best captain we've seen yet. Every hater will watch every moment and bitch until the end of time in detail about it.

They said they wouldn't with Voyager, then Enterprise, then the Kelvin movies. Those posters all watched, several times, and are still here today complaining proving this mans point many times over.

So, onwards Captain Malf...Lorca.

What should they have learned? To treat vapid whining about change as if it's worthwhile criticism? Because that's the kindest thing that can be said about the fan caterwauling over Ghostbusters.
No, he should have learned that even if you disagree with them you don't shit on your fanbase.

The pretentiousness of the so-called "die-hards" is why you get comments like this from Chris Pine, Jason Isaacs and whoever else. Quit thinking your "canon" is going to be enshrined and worshipped in each and every series/incarnation and you'll be that much better off (this is one reason why you find different websites, blogs, books and other forms of media out there catering to different forms of Trek)
