Looks like Stargate is officially done

The most that we can expect in the short term (next 5 years) is an officially canon series of books and/or comics. Unless something miraculous happens.

I still hope for the Emmerich sequel. I'm kinda tired about the SG-1 universe, but I'd really like to see Kurt Russell as O'Neil again. No Gua, Guo, Elliot Gould stuff. An entirely different direction.

I wouldn't trust him with the franchise these days whether he created it or not, and it doesn't look like MGM would either. I just hope they find a way to buy him out of his rights and give it to someone more talented.

The Alliance did look good. The gameplay looked nice, the graphics were pretty good for the time, and having the cast lend their voices was a super duper great bonus icing on the cake. Why was it cancelled anyways, was there ever a stated reason, or did MGM go all douchenozzle out of the blue?

Stargate Worlds didn't look great though, and that Stargate Resistance thing is best left unmentioned.

Now I'm wondering what a Japanese Stargate show would be like. The Destiny as a giant transforming robot does hold some appeal to me.

Ooh, ooh! The Destiny and eight seed ships can combine to make a giant supergate! That's why all the Ancient ships of the era are chevron-shaped!

No no - it would be a giant transforming Robot with a working Stargate in it's center torso area; AND said Stargate would also be able to shoot (for considerable range) a 'Stargate Beam' that disintigrates what it hits. ;)

Really? Where did the term Japanimation come from? I thought that was to distinguish anime made in Japan from other serious/adult animated projects?

I've never heard that term before, but Wikipedia says the word anime came from Japanimation. It is a little on the long side.

Wikipedia said:
English-speakers occasionally refer to anime as "Japanimation", but this term has fallen into disuse. "Japanimation" saw the most usage during the 1970s and 1980s, but the term "anime" supplanted it in the mid-1990s as the material became more widely known in English-speaking countries.

:alienblush: I guess my age is showing, Japanimation was all the rage in the 1980s. Damned young whippersnappers making us 40+ look old ;)

Oh yeah, "Japanimation" brings back memories of Vampire Hunter D, Project A-Ko, Bubblegum Crisis, and the like. Remember when Sci-Fi would actually show that stuff? They might have even used that term....

I don't get the sense that many of the Stargate faithful are all that adventurous as far as wanting to see something different from what they got with SG-1 and Atlantis.

Personally, now that syndication's dead, I think it'd be interesting to see it done up like contemporary premium cable shows with complex characters, intrigue, violence, language and nudity. And crank up the Egyptian stuff and temper the ren faire and domestic stories.

That would end up in my circular file under crape'

^^ Doesn't surprise me in the least.

I didn't really say it very well though, I don't necessarily want to see a show without restraint but rather one that is dynamic, bold, surprising, exotic, etc. A franchise with a premise with so much potential shouldn't be so damned domestic.

a movie set 30 years from now and wraping up everything with a new cast.
that would be perfect ending.

I share in everyones' disappointment over Stargate coming to an end. I am one of many upset about the cancellation of SGU. This is not just about saving SGU, but is also an effort to reboot Stargate and keep true Space Science Fiction going on the Syfy channel. If CBS Corporate want to make a new Star Trek, who can air it?. It is also an effort to bring back true Science Fiction shows back on to Syfy channel. Many are not in favor of the Wrestling and a cooking show. We have to make a stand and show them we are not happy with these moves.

There is a petition up to Save SGU. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/savesgu with 13,000 people signed so far. I agree it is barely a quarter of what it needs to be taken seriously. There is another one for Atlantis http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/savesgu with over 40,000. Sign these petitions and maybe those slug heads in charge will see we want to see Stargate rebooted or come back in some form. There are also big groups forming on Facebook, a SG-1 http://www.facebook.com/pages/Starga...07957985891392 group has over 400,000 members and there is a specific group to save SGU that is working to bring Stargate back.

Maybe we can also start a petition to bring a new Star Trek show back to television.

I would suspect with the success of Star Trek (2009) that they are looking at brining Star Trek back to the small screen. I suspect sometime around 2014-2015 we might see it back on the small screen.

One would think that the opposite would be true for Stargate - MGM, in need of a movie franchise, might reboot and remake the original Stargate movie for theatrical release.

Call me cynical, but I never sign petitions, because very few have ever worked (I would say none, but I'm sure there are probably a couple of noteworthy ones that people could point out).
I would think that realistically the number of fans or votes or whatever would probably have to be well into the hundreds of thousands, or millions. If 1 million viewers a week couldn't save the show, then I doubt 40,000 signatures on a petition over several months would either.

And peteym5, this wasn't at all a dig at you or your post. I'm definitely all for the cause, I just think the chances of it working are none, unfortunately.

There's a clause in the rights agreement that gives Devlin first dibs on a theatrical movie, which MGM don't seem to be very enthused about. Until that's dealt with I don't see a Stargate movie happening, not unless the bean counters that now run things push for it.
