Looking for a better mouse. Any suggestions?

I have been using Microsoft's Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 for quite a while.

I get them on ebay for around $16-$18 each, usually 2-4 at a time.

The reason behind keeping so many is, they crap out relatively quickly. 6 months (sometimes sooner) and they start getting more inaccurate and slower
to move the pointer. New batteries don't help.

Of course the plus side is the low price for a mouse with a lot of buttons/features. 2 thumb buttons, which I use, side scroll and a wheel button I rarely use,
plus a good shape.

What would be a better mouse that has a longer lifespan that has a similar shape and buttons?

Price isn't necessarily an issue, but I'd hate to spend $60 and have it go tits up in 6 months.

What do y'all use and is it more rugged & reliable?

I stay away from these cheap products and go for quality.

For years i used Microsoft (say what you will about their software but their hardware is good) but with my "new" laptop i bought 2 years ago i decided for Logitech and haven't regretted it.

I bought a wireless mouse for about 50-60 Euro i think which is in the upper middle class i guess and never had a problem with it for 2 years now.. works the same today as it did when i got it.

Key is to buy quality.. that applies for everything. If you can afford it don't cheap put and buy something you can use for a long time.

The rest is personal preference.. go to a store and see which one fits best in your hand and fits your need.

Yeah, the main thing is which one has the quality.

I have had some trouble with Logitech Harmony remotes that weren't too old, yet I know they are a big maker of hardware, so I'll have to look at them no matter what.

I've had a Logitech MX Revolution for a few years now. It has a the thumb buttons you like as well as a second "scroll wheel." It's discontinued so a bit hard to recommend, but you're no stranger to eBay. Logitech has similar products in their current lineup but I just don't like their feel in hand as much.

I recently updated to a Logitech Anywhere MX. 2 thumb buttons, wheel with smooth scroll (my favorite new feature) and "click" scroll mode.

I've ordered a Logitech Performance Mouse MX from ebay. It's a new, in retail box one, for $76.

There's a couple more expensive Logitech models, but this one looks like the best one for me.

I'll probably try it at work for a while, since that's where I do more "computing" and seem have the most problems with mice.

If it's good, I'll get another one for home and use the two spare MS ones I still have with the laptop, which I don't use a whole lot anyway.

I would get the mouse joystick... or ergonimic mouse. I'm a drafter and using a normal mouse causes intense pain after extended periods in my for arm and palm.

I haven't used a mouse in 6 years. I find it very tiring and awkward to always be pushing the thing around, wireless mice go dead after a couple weeks, and I always run out of space on my (very cluttered desk) and for gaming, they're useless. The less said about those pad things used on laptops and that insane little knobby thing by the G key some laptops had a few years back, the better.

Once I was introduced to laser trackballs, I haven't looked back (boy, that sounds like a commercial, doesn't it?). I highly recommend the "Expert Mouse" by Kensington which is a trackball with 4 side buttons and a scroller ring. They take about 30 seconds to get used to. The only problem with a trackball is you have to occasionally pop out the ball and clean the receptors inside because they get gunked up once in a while. A good puff of air usually does the trick.

It showed up yesterday, a couple days earlier than I anticipated.

The only thing I consider a problem is the scroll wheel.

It seems to "fly" up much better than down, tends to go back up after scrolling slowly down and creeps up as I'm typing and the ergo arm bounces a little.

I think I'll send it back for an exchange and see if it's a widespread problem or just this one.
