We're almost there! Just a few more days until Loki wrecks havoc everywhere and everywhen!

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering when we would have this thread.

I too am looking forward to it. I was supposed to cancel Disney Plus after Falcon and Winter Soldier and then wait another few months for another binge watch month. But now we are just gonna go ahead with the subscription through the end of the show. It will be interesting to see where this all ends up.

Just wondering how this fits into everything, and, separately, so does this mean Tom Hiddleston is really embracing a continued future as Loki?

It's already been renewed for a second season so Hiddleston is definitely in for the long run.

As I posted in the other thread, the Marvel Studios Legends episodes for Loki are already up. One for Loki and one for the Tesseract.

The Tesseract episode points out what has been my favorite continuity Easter egg (and apparently Kevin Feige's as well) in the MCU so far.

The episode shows the events in their proper continuity order, but in the real world, when Iron Man 2 was released in 2010, Feige asked that an image of the Tesseract be included in Howard Stark's notes.

The next year, with the release of Captain America the First Avenger, we saw Howard Stark experimenting on a Tesseract power cell and finally fishing the Tesseract off the bottom of the ocean floor following Steve and Red Skull's final battle.

Finally, in the first Avengers movie, when Tony Stark sees the holographic representation of the Tesseract in the SHIELD briefing package, he reacts as if he knew exactly what it was, like he had seen it before. And he had, in his father's notebook.

I've been trying to avoid the latest tranche of promo material so am looking forward to the damn thing finally coming out.

I never picked up on any of that before.
Really looking forward to this, the trailers look like it's going to be awesome. Just going by the trailers, there's a pretty good chance this could end up being my favorite Disney+ show so far.

The first episode was a lot of fun with plenty of expected setup and worldbuilding. I particularly enjoyed the 50s-style animation used for the TVA introduction and history video which fit in nicely with the rest of the homely TVA aesthetic. Plus: Tara Strong as Miss Minutes!

I'm glad the episode took the time to dig into who the variant Loki is and why he does what he does. I wondered going into this show if this Loki would ever find out what happens to him in the proper flow of time as already depicted in the films and I was happy to see that the opening episode addressed that head-on. Not just the single moment of seeing how his actions indirectly caused Frigga's death, which I thought for a moment was all he was going to see, but also his entire life...leading up to his gruesome death. Causing his adoptive mother's clearly had an effect on him, but seeing his whole life played out on a film reel pushed him to a new emotional level that he had not anticipated. For all of his bluster about being burdened with glorious purpose, it's good to see Loki's vulnerable side again, albeit in a way we never saw with the previous Loki. After all, seeing one's entire life played out in mere minutes is going to have an effect on anyone, even a "god."

As for larger plot about a variant causing havoc to the timeline, I'm skeptical of Mobius' claim about another version of Loki. While, of course, it sounds like something a Loki would do, it is curious how the final scene goes out of its way not to show the hooded figure's face. Maybe it is Loki but there's something different about this variant, or maybe it's someone else entirely and Mobius is lying for some reason. Or maybe it was just for dramatic effect (but I will be disappointed if that turns out to be the case).

While the episode isn't clear on this point, can someone who has read them in the comics clarify something for me: What species (singular or plural) are the workers of the organization suppose to be? Human or just a species that happens to look like humans a la Doctor Who for budgetary reasons? If they're not human, they nonetheless remain just as susceptible to fire as humans (unless that was some kind of special fire the variant used) (Yeah, I'm probably overthinking this).

I loved the gag about how the TVA has multiple variant Infinity Stones. Clearly the Avengers aren't the only ones who've used time travel to get hold of them, so much so that they're used as paperweights and no one bats an eye when Hunter B-15 destroys a cart with a handful of them in it.

With all of the TVA's talk about preventing the creation of multiverses, I wonder if they'll have any role in What If...? or The Multiverse of Madness.

For the first 10 minutes or so i couldn't stop laughing - the contrast beween Loki's absolute confusion ( and no one from the TVA picking up on it or caring about it) vs. the "another day at the office" TVA office workers was just so brilliant.

The middle stretched a bit but it was necessary as an introduction of the TVA and worldbuilding in general ( it was also so funny how this single episode casually invalidates the entire MCU movie series by treating the Infinity stones as shiny baubles), it picks up when Loki gets to see his life play out as a highlight reel and him breaking down ( awesome acting by Hiddleston).

So it's another Loki variant causing havoc - knowing Marvel this won't be the final answer and there'll be much more to it ( personal guess is that the Timekeepers are fishy somehow based on how slavishly the TVA reveres and follows them). Also Marvel os going full speed ahead on the Multiverse concept which seems to be the next big thing for at least the phase following the Infinity War saga and possibly way beyond that ( with the Multiverse you can basically explain everything with the snap of a finger).

So once again the vicious cycle starts anew - watch a new episode and then having to wait an entire week.

Great episode. Really strong opening to the season. It's probably my favorite first episode of all the Marvel series so far and Hiddleston really knocked it out of the park. Love the surprise twist at the end that they are after another version of him. For a second I thought they might show Agent Coulson alive again as a bit of a F U to Loki.

I suspect by the end of this series there won't be a TVA anymore (or it will never have been?) And thus the larger multiverse is again unleashed.
Of course how the divergent timeline multiverse relates to the multiverse non-tangential multiverse already featured in the first Doctor Strange movie is still a bit of a question. Parallel vs. perpendicular perhaps? As in the branching timelines having a 4th dimensional causality in common (and THAT's what the TVA is minding), whereas places like the Dark Dimension and the Mirror Dimension are entirely separate, unrelated universes amidst the infinite infinities of the cosmic foam.

Why is the picture so dark? Did Ron Howard make it? :)
It was pretty good. Reminded me a lot of the video game, Control, with a little Legends of Tomorrow.
I assume the female Loki is the villain.

Owen Wilson inhabited that role pretty naturally. Especially in the clips we've seen with Loki in the suit and tie I keep imagining him as Constantine. Also, Wunmi Mosaku did a nice turn as B-15 coming off of Lovecraft Country.

I suspect by the end of this series there won't be a TVA anymore (or it will never have been?) And thus the larger multiverse is again unleashed.
That wouldn't surprise me as it's such a powerful entity to thrust upon the MCU.

Why is the picture so dark?
I thought maybe that was just me or my TV or the fact I watched it during a bout on insomnia in the middle of the night.

Loved it!

Loki and Agent Mobius were great. The dialogue was great. The world-building was great. The exploration Loki's character was great. The themes of free will and determinism were great. I am totally invested in the show after just the pilot which is a testament to how good the pilot was. Not a lot of shows can get you totally hooked on a new show after the pilot.

Ok so now for my theory about how the show will end:

The Time Keepers are the real villains. They say they are protecting the sacred timeline but that is just the marketing brochure. The reality is that the Time Keepers won the early multiverse war by dominating all the other timelines by force and creating the TVA to enforce their will on the entire multiverse. They don't believe individuals have a right to free will. They believe the timeline should only be what they say it should be. So, the Time Keepers now use the TVA to prune any timelines that they don't like, that might threaten their dominance, because they only want a timeline where they rule supreme. Loki and Mobius will eventually realize this and team up to take down the Time Keepers. By the end of the series, the TVA will be erased which will lead to every nexus event sprouting into an alternate timeline, creating a huge multiverse. This will lead into the Dr Strange movie, "The Multiverse Madness" because the new multiverse will be out of control, ie madness.
