Locke & Key

I just started watching Locke & Key. My only prior contact with the story was the german audio book version, by audible, which has a brilliant cast and is downright creepy.

My observations so far:

The cast seems to be spot on, especially the kids. What´s bugging me a bit though is that they´ve decided to make changes to make it more "teen friendly". (I guess to get a PG-something rating). For example
Randal beeing murdered is over in about 2 minutes and pretty much unbloody.
In the audio version the whole thing is much more elaborate, disgusting and creepy.

Production design seems alright, but Keyhouse could be a bit more creepy.

last sunday i devoured the whole first season... really enjoyable i think.

What´s interesting, it seems they went and changed some stuff up..its more of a re-telling instead of a direct adaption. I like this version of Nina better...the original version went on my nerves pretty fast by beeing constantly drunk and useless. And wow is Duncan hot!! ;-P

Isn't it sad that after all the years and failed attempts it finally gets made and then seems to come and go without generating much attention.

I was mildly interested in seeing this even without reading the comics, but once I heard they toned it down from the comic and basically made this a YA show instead of a general audience show, I pretty much lost interest (its kind of like the Netflix Lost in Space show in that way). I'll just wait for the next season of Umbrella Academy to get my Netflix comicbook adaptation fix.

I was really excited until I saw the trailer. I'll still check it out, but there's no hype at all .

Well... guess its the YA approach that´s the problem. And WAY to much focus on the "school life" part instead of the real plot.

I'm halfway through and I'm really loving it so far. But then I'm a sucker for magical keys, mysterious old houses, and family secrets and conspiracies.

Just heard about this. It sounds very interesting to me. Always appreciate seeing adaptations, including YA additions.

Apparently they made changes to the story itself too, which makes it interesting if you already know it..YA or not. For example, it seems there are more keys in this.

Ooooo! I knew Gabe couldn't be trusted. He was way too cheerful and obliging to do whatever Kinsey wanted to (especially during the dangerous situation in the sea caves) and he coincidentally showed up in town at the same time as the Lockes. Yeah, I knew there was something wrong there.

I also figured poor Ellie had been changed in appearance and that's who they actually threw through the Black Door. I wonder if we'll see her again or if she was instantly killed when she was condemned to that world.

Overall, I really enjoyed the season and all of its mysteries and the cool things the magical keys could do. I really hope the series did well enough to get a second season. While most of the major mysteries were resolved, there's obviously much more story to be told.

Now, I need to go to the library so I can read the graphic novels...

That reminds me, I need to rewatch the first season. Just reading my review a few posts up makes realize how much I've forgotten (commentary on my memory, not the show).
