Live Action Kim Possible Trailer Drops

I have a confession to make... I LOVE the Kim Possible cartoon. Yes, it was on when my kids were small and we always watched it together, but I found myself getting into the story lines and even watching it when they weren't around.

The Disney Channel announced a while back that they were producing a live action movie and I was hopeful it would capture the magic of the cartoon..

Well, the trailer has dropped and sadly it looks squarely aimed at kids.

What I really enjoyed about the cartoons, like so many back in the day, while aimed at kids, there was enough inside humor enough to keep parents/adults interested.

Ah well... I might look in to see how this goes, but I don't have high hopes.

Looks about right. I dunno, it seems like there are more Kim Possible porn comics on line than any other property except maybe the Archie characters.

So would say the folks loving She-Ra...

There are certain cartoons that strike a nerve. For me, KP, like Sailor Moon is a link I share with my daughter. Just like her love of Tool and My Chemical Romance is her link to me. Simple really..

Let me clarify. I love the series. I expected a reboot of KP to be awesome. This trailer did not bring the awesome. :(

Dropped is a good word for it. But then, dropped is a good word for most things these days. :rommie:

The trailer is as generic as it could possibly be, another sign of the times, but the actors do look really good in their parts from what is seen. I don't really see the appeal of live-action adaptations of cartoons, although maybe-- possibly-- using Incredibles-like 3D animation might be interesting. But the proof will be in the pudding, I suppose. I just wonder if they will make any effort to align it with the show's continuity (which shouldn't be difficult).

The live-action Kim Possible movie aired tonight. It was pretty good, for what it was. Most of the main cast members were pretty effective at capturing the original characters, especially Sean Giambrone as Ron Stoppable. It was co-written by the creators of the original show, so it was pretty authentic and funny. Except it was weird -- it seemed like it was trying to be both a sequel and an origin story at the same time. Kim was treated as an established character with a long history of battling her foes and with all her relationships already developed, but the story involved her just starting high school (when the series ended with her graduation) and showed the origin of Rufus.

The trailer looks very "Disney Channel" for better or worse. I wasn't into the show and have only seen snippets of it but the vibe doesn't quite seem to jibe with the tone here.

I don't know about the trailer, but the actual movie felt pretty authentic to the show. As I said, it was co-written by the show's creators.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would! Everyone was great in their roles, especially the guy playing Ron! Even the smaller roles such as the guy playing Mr. Possible, sounded like the cartoon version. The weird club signs at Middleton High, Bueno Nacho and Ron’s invention of the Naco, Rufus, the Christy Carlson-Romano cameo... The exact same opening credits as the cartoon was so cool!

So much nostalgia. :techman:

It would've been nice to have Gary Cole reprise the role, like Daran Norris did with Timmy's Dad in the Fairly Oddparents live-action movies. But I guess he's aged out of the part. On the other hand, Patrick Warburton could easily still play Mr. Barkin, but instead they replaced him with Michael P. Northey, who I didn't even recognize as the same character. (Maybe Warburton was too busy with A Series of Unfortunate Events.) At least we got Patton Oswalt reprising Professor Dementor -- and Nancy Cartwright reprising Rufus.

The weird club signs at Middleton High

Yes, those were great to see again.

I am disappointed that they dropped Kim's trademarked crop top. I guess maybe they figured a live-action version would be too sexy for a kids' movie. Or maybe it's just not considered fashionable anymore? Although in the soccer tryouts (I think), Kim was wearing a lighter-colored crop top over another full-length shirt, which I guess was a nod to the old look.

Yeah I didn’t recognize Mr. Barkin at all. The movie version was nowhere near the cartoon one. I also wanted to see Kim’s trademark green crop top even if it was a tank top instead.

When Kim visited her Nana, I thought she was DNAmy. If I remember correctly, Nana was a little old white-haired lady (voiced by Debbie Reynolds). Unless her other Nana was like the movie version? I think it would have been nice if Raven reprised her role as Monique (Kim’s other friend) too.

By the way, during Star Wars Resistance just now, they showed a music video of the new movie's extended theme song sung by the lead actress -- I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Disney Channel wanted the actress to be a singer too, so they can cross-promote her music like I gather they do with so many of their stars. Anyway, it struck me that the refrain line "Call me, beep me / If you wanna reach me" has become anachronistic. Who uses beepers anymore? For that matter, a lot of people don't make conventional phone calls anymore. I'm a bit surprised they didn't update it to "Text me, tweet me."

On a lark, I caught it Saturday night. Christopher describes it pretty well, an "interesting" mixture of "sequel" and "origin story". I figured certain aspects would be "rearranged" and/or "rewritten". That's just "par for the course" when adapting from one medium to another.

Pretty most of the points have already been covered.. I will ask this. uh, when did Christy Carlson-Romano "cameo" in the movie? Obviously, I completely missed it.

Also, I had to laugh when Rufus was revealed. No, not the execution. Real naked mole rats are nasty looking things like ambulatory and flaccid "male anatomy" with freaking long incisors! Brr! This was basically, a hairless and smooth skinned rat with slightly cartoonish facial features to make it more endearing. No, I laughed because the production's "solution" was what was gently mocked in the original series, even going so far as to grant the episode's title, "...And the Mole Rat Will Be CGI".

She was Poppy Blu, that rock star who showed up to Kim and Athena a ride in her limo and had a long, pointless conversation with them before doing so. I don't know the actress by sight, but during that scene, I wondered if it was her cameo, because the scene didn't serve much of a purpose otherwise.

Ah, thanks for the answer! the scene may have been a bit long, but it did have a purpose (beyond Christy's cameo). It was the first of several instances where Athena appeared to supplant Kim's popularity and reveal an element of jealousy on Kim's part.
