Little BIG Planet...I want it now

I haven't owned a gaming system since Sega Genesis. I've played video games randomly from time to time since then, but I am certainly not a gamer by any means.

However, I recently bought a PS3, mostly for the Blu-Ray player. I went to Best Buy yesterday and noticed that Little BIG Planet is coming out soon, and they were letting you reserves copies for yourself. Generally, they don't do this unless it's a big deal, so I decided to investigate.

I watched the videos that they have on the Playstation website, and I have to say that I am excited to try this game out! It's got the feel of an old 2-D game like Mario or Sonic, but it's been brought to the 21st Century. I love games that let you build and create things, and the fact that this game alows you to then share your creations with the rest of the world just astounds me.

I'm very excited.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it as well. :) Luckily I have a ton of other PS3 games that I can play in the meantime.

I can see myself playing this one for a long time.

I can't see myself creating levels, but I reckon I could get heaps into the character customisation stuff.

The level creation is what I'm most looking forward to. I think it'll be a lot of fun. The whole game could turn into a hobby unto itself.

Yeah, I'm probably picking this one up as well.

There's a lot of creative people out there.

Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

I guess this is one of those things you have to see to "get." I've been hearing a lot of hype about this for a LONG time now and nothing about it sounds all that appealing to me. But that's just from what I'm reading, maybe I'll feel different if I ever see it in action. (GTA3 was that way for me.)

I'm with ya brudda, I don't get why some people are freaked over this game.
it's looks like a little kid's game but to each their own.

BTW for those getting it, it's gone gold.

Upcoming game fails to appeal to jaded gamer, stay tuned for further updates!

Spore is the latest victim of this crap, with masses of FPS mouthbreathers decrying the game as "overhyped" because it doesn't appeal to their interests. What hype? Go fuck yourselves.

There have been and are many heavily advertised, highly anticipated games about which I do not give a fuck, most notably this year Grand Theft Auto 4. Just as I'm able to accept the idea that Danielle Steele's latest romance novel may be well written despite being of no interest to me whatsoever, I'm able to accept the existence of games that do not appeal to me without disparaging them.

The sooner gamers get over this idea that each and every game should appeal to them, that if it doesn't it's because there's something wrong with it, the better.

I'll be deep into the creation aspect of LittleBigPlanet as well for a long time. G4, you really have to see it in action to appreciate it, because the concept itself isn't all that amazing, what's astounding is how easy they've made it to create and share the things you make. It's like a simplfied version of 3D studio max meets photoshop+ 2D game mod tools. You can make platformer's, RPG's, puzzle games. Also, it's just so darn cute.

I think the original reveal at GDC is still the best introduction to the game.

Don't be naive. It's much more than that, and you know it.

If it was an Xbox 360 exclusive nobody would be able to shut you up about it.

If it was a 360 exclusive I'd say the same exact thing.
Just like that banjo whatever game.

Since you quoted me, I assume that reply was specifically for my benefit. If not, then please disregard the following. However if you were specifically replying to me, then I think you read WAAAY too much into my comments. Don't mistake my comment about probably not liking the game for disparging anybody who does, because that was not my intent. Nor do I think every game has to appeal to me.

This seems like it's going to be really cool and I'm going to at least rent it when it comes out. For the time being though, I have to finish up GTA. Then I'm going to move on to Blitz the League 2 when it comes out. That game looks totally hilarious to play and it's going to be an awesome substitute for Madden.

I've been staying up until 5am the last two days playing it. I've finally gone through a lot of the levels and tutorials, so I'm much more able to create stuff. Still have a lot of work to do, though.

It came for me today in the post in the UK, not a bad deal: £34.97 from ASDA.

I must say, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but I really liked the aspect of creating your own level for it.

Am I glad I bought it? Hell yes! Its good quality fun, and it would appeal to every kind of gamer. Sure... the start of it where its showing you how to do things is a bit slower than I would have liked... but it makes sure you know exaclty what you are doing. The first 2 trophies can be done easily enough.

Some of the things are well cool that you can do, and I'm seriously considering buying a PS-Eye, to use with the game and create some of my own stickers and backgrounds etc.

If you like something new, appeals to all ages, has unlimited re-playability, creating your own levels, teaming up with up to 4 players on or offline and challenging for plenty of trophies.... I recommend this game. :techman:

Care went into the game's creation so I won't say it sucks, but it definitely under-delivered and didn't end up being much fun. While the creature creator facet of the game was interesting for a while (how many variations on the "walking cock" theme are there anyway?), it basically boils down to a bunch of simple mini-games that rip off a bunch of other games, compiled with the fact that all the different ways of building a society are rendered absolutely moot by the time you realise you're screwed if you didn't turn them into violent, bloodthirsty cannibals like every other person playing did. It's a good example of a thousand promises made, half of them broken or just not panning out the way they were promised. It's a 7.5/10 game, not horrible, worth trying out, but hardly the revolutionary experience it was made out to be.

And while I like FPSs, I've got very broad tastes and have been playing video games for about 30 years so I think I have a valid opinion.

I just got LBP today. Add "Elemental_CM" to your friends list and I'll add you too! We could share a heart back and forth :p
