Links to Int'l Versions of the Trek XI Teaser Trailer

I'd really like to see the Chinese trailer..since they've got they're current space program going (and it really rocks!) I wonder if they're going to include the names of the astronauts that have recently gone up? I think they call them takaunaughts?? Same meaning though "star voyagers". Also, the Chinese were the first to invent rockets and there is that legend about the Chinese scientist that tried to use them as a form of propulsion by attatching them to a chair (he was never seen again), and that was from hundreds of years ago.

That would be Wan Hu. I remember him from a school report I did on rockets many decades ago in elementary school! Haven't thought about that in years....

Well, in the French trailer they just translated what is said in the English one, even Niel Armstrong's words. So, I doubt that there will be allusions to the respective histories of space exploration in other countries' trailers.
Anyway, this would only be doable for a few countries, anyway, and I wouldn't want to hear Wernher von Braun in a Trek trailer, considering his past.

Neither would I.

People like you have made possible the rise of the Space Nazis. Thank you for your brilliance, originality and good taste. Not to mention sensibility. You crazy dog, you. This NEVER stops being funny and soooooooo cool! OMG OMG LOLZ

So, are you saying the Hindenburg wasn't really a zeppelin?

The mind boggles. :vulcan:

Many thanks to ViveLaFrance for the link to the international trailer: I'm psyched for the Italian one! :D

Same with the Italian trailer. Just a translation.

I wonder who's speaking in the other trailers?
In the Italian one, they are just nondescript voices, exept for the "Space..." bit: he is the usual Italian dubber of Nimoy (that's cool they had him, since unfortunately the dub is not always made by the same company and it could happen that an actor has different voices in different movies).

Sorry I missed this until this morning...but InstantKarma, you have a warning for trolling.

And to the rest of you guys who chose to take nasty shots instead of hitting the 'notify mod' button...please choose the latter option the next time, or there will be warnings for trolling for you too.

I'm WAY over this Nazi bullshit.

Thanks.

Sorry. I just tend to take idiotic comments such as those personal.

In New Zealand, we'll probably have someone watching the US or Russian transmissions.

Our own space program isn't worth making a trailer for...

...probably have the same budget...

I'm still hoping someone who is fluent in Russian will give us a better idea of the translation. I'd love to know if they added something about Yuri Gagarin, as he was the first man to travel in space around Earth's orbit, which was a significant accomplishment.

I’ve listen the Spanish version and it’s quit different from the others:

«
30 seconds and counting.
Astronauts reporting all well,
25 seconds less…

I intent to improve the efforts of Man to conquer space … because he will know how to go to space … because its dimensions are unlimited … Man will go beyond its life on Earth, the atmospheric limit and beyond … and only then will he understand the world were he lives…

(english countdown)
Space… the Final Frontier…
»

I can’t identify the origin of those phrases but I bet that’s an adaptation of the Russian version since they are very similar to some Tsiolkovsky quotes.

Well, if you think it's trolling, hit the 'notify mod' button rather than taking one or two shots back, like you have in two separate threads now without ONCE hitting the notify mod button.

But I do have to say that if you are gonna get this upset every time someone on the internet associates 'Nazi' or 'Hitler' with 'Germany'...then you may need to develop a wee bit thicker skin. ;)

You have to remember that some of us in the UK and the U.S. (and this IS an English-speaking board, after all) lost grandfathers, great uncles, and possibly even fathers and uncles in the WWII...and there are likely many Jewish people on this board as well who are very sensitive about any move toward what they might fairly see as 'revisionist history' if we disallow every post that ties the Nazis or Hitler to Germany, like it didn't exist or something.

You have to be fair to them also.

I can and will nail the people who are outright trolling. But I won't pretend that Hitler and the Nazi party did not exist and disallow any mention of them, just because it's uncomfortable for some of the German board members.

We are doing our best here and we don't want to see anyone get trolled...but we will NOT disallow the words 'Nazi' or 'Hitler' on this board either....nor will we disallow those words from being used with the word 'Germany' in the same sentence.

I hope you can appreciate that.

Once again, hitting 'notify mod' is your best course of action in circumstances like this. We try to get to every thread...but sometimes the function that highlights unread threads doesn't work properly and we might inadvertently miss one for a day or so. We don't want situations like this to develop, and we need YOUR help to make sure that they don't.

Thanks. :)

Well, while I was once reasonably decent in Russian, I am no longer. 12 years of not speaking it will do that to you.

However, while I only listened to it once (and was having streaming problems even then), I didn't catch any reference to Yuri Gagarin.

I don't think InstantKarma was just "associating Hitler with Germany". His comment implied that Hitler was the only thing for which Germany could be considered famous. And that is not only untrue but insulting. And being a German I felt inderectly insulted. If he would have just taken a stab against Hitler, I'd be all for it. This man was a maniac. But equaling everything german with this man is just unfair. And sorry, I think this has nothing to do with me not having a "thick skin". However I really do understand that this board mostly consists of people who were directly or indirectly affected by WWII (i.e. citizens of the US or UK). And as I said, I'm all for trashing Hitler. But that is simply not what InstantKarma did.

Sorry if this is inappropriate.

I am aware of this. Which is why he got warned for trolling. ;)

However, all I'm saying is that while we are trying very hard to be fair here, we won't warn for it every time someone associates "Nazi" or "Hitler" with "Germany".

This thread, combined with the upshot of the comment that Temis made a few weeks ago...and implication that the term 'space Nazis' is unacceptable (they have been called that for YEARS around here) says to me that we need to relax just a bit here.

Like it or not, 'Nazi' is a name people use for evil...because...well....they WERE evil. And like I said, I'm not gonna divorce the term "Nazi" from the word "Germany" like they never ever existed together. It would be an insult to the many, many people who died needlessly in that war - including some of my own relatives.

If someone calls YOU a Nazi, they WILL get a warning for trolling. And if someone tries to imply that Hitler was the ONLY thing Germany ever produced, they'll get a warning for that also (as in this case). But I won't disallow the term "space Nazi"...nor will I disallow any tie-in between the Nazi Party and Germany.

I know what it's like to have your country be responsible for something that is horrible. IMO, my country is involved in a couple of horrible things at this very moment that I'm not in the least bit proud of. Also, as a person of Catholic background, I have to put up with ALOT of Catholic Church bashing around this board - both for some unsavory parts of Catholic Church history...and also because of some of it's current positions that are unpopular around here.

But history is history...and I don't think it should be erased just because we might prefer it to be. Because the victims of some of these horrible acts deserve to be remembered...and the world needs to remember so that such horrible actions will not be repeated - by ANYONE.

As I said, I won't let anyone call you or anyone else around here a 'Nazi'....but take it from one who is of Catholic background - you have to grow a bit of a thick skin on the internet, or you'll be upset all the time. ;)

Anyway, if you (or anyone else) want to chat about this further, let's take it to PM. Don't wanna derail the thread any further. ;)

I didn't catch Yuri being referenced either though I probably should listen to it again. Speaking of Yuri, the last time I was in Russia I saw the space suit he wore when he first blasted into space. At least, that is what they said at the museum...

I think I saw that too.

By the way, I guess you saw his grave, right? He's burried in the wall of the Kremlin along with the Biggest-of-the-Big Boys. ;)
